Fall Scouting Notebook: 2019 Hitters on the Rise

By Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

This past week brought a lot of content from Texas and across Prep Baseball Report. Over the past two weeks we have been in Dallas, Houston and Austin. Our staff will be working to become the #1 news source for Prep Baseball across the state of Texas. Remember to follow us on twitter (@PBR_Texas) and reach out to us with any news, commitments, or your upcoming workout and game schedule. Here are four sophomore hitters that are on the rise.

Wyatt Rohmer, SS, Byron Nelson HS
5-foot-11, 160-pound frame. Athletic build with well defined lower half and strength in the hands. The right-handed hitter has a solid set-up at the plate with quiet rhythm and a high leg-kick with balance as he waits for the ball to cross into the hitting zone. Engages the lower half in his swing with good weight transfer. Showed high level bat speed and strength finishing the barrel through contact on both fastballs and sliders. Has the ability to keep his hands back and hit offspeed pitches with leverage. On a triple in the left-center gap he was a 4.65 on the turn showing good acceleration between first and second. He also had a well-struck deep fly ball to left field and a base hit on a slider. Aggressive base-runner stealing three bags on the day. Defensively he showed good range at shortstop.

Chad Ricker, C/IF, Argyle HS
5-foot-11, 150-pound frame. Defensively has advanced, clean arm action with solid exchange and release. Accurate thrower with 2.2 pop times that will improve with added strength and development. Moved to shortstop for an inning and his defensive actions show the ability to play multiple positions. The switch-hitter batted left-handed all day with a very simple, slightly crouched set-up that produces natural lift. Consistently hit balls on the barrel going 3-for-5 with a double and single to right field, a base hit in the six-hole and two fly balls to right field.

Paden Adams, OF/IF, Rockwall HS
5-foot-9, 155-pound frame. The left-handed hitting outfielder was hustling all over the field. He turned a single into a double on a base hit to right field and posted a 4.66 home-to-first time; made a diving play down the left field line and had another base hit on a drag bunt to third base with a 4.0 home-to-first time.

Caleb Vuono, OF, Lewisville HS
5-foot-8, 180-pound frame. This aggressive left-handed hitter put quality swings on every pitch that was in the strike zone. In multiple at-bats he was fouling off fastballs and off-speed pitches on the barrel and showed the ability to use the whole field. He sharply lined out and grounded out to shortstop, flew out to right field and had a base hit to left field. Defensively he made a diving play in the left-center gap.
