MIDLOTHIAN, TX - It was a beautiful night for a ballgame as Mansfield Legacy traveled over to Midlothian for the second game of district play. On Tuesday, Legacy took game one on Tuesday 7-1.

Midlothian got on the board with two runs in the second when 2020 1B Ryan McCaskill lead off with a single, then 2018 Jett Johnson laced a triple that split the right-centerfield gap, scoring McCaskill from first.

Legacy starter 2018 RHP Ryan Hill, a Hill JC commit, struck out the next batter and induced a ground ball ball to first base, but Johnson would advance home on an RBI fielder’s choice from 2019 C Anthony Ferrante. Midlothian up 2-0.

Legacy answered with a run in the top of the fourth after back-to-back singles from 2019 SS Nathan Rooney and 2018 3B David Vargas. Rooney advanced to third on a fielder’s choice, then 2018 1B Sam Turnbough scored Rooney on a safety squeeze. With a Midlothian 2, Legacy 1.

Midlothian starter 2019 LHP Caden Hawkins would shut down Legacy the rest of the way, even when the Broncos threatened again in the in the 6th. With two outs and a runner on second, Connor Binkley singled to right field, driving in what would be the tying run. But Midlothian 2018 RF Jonathan Little (Navarro JC) made a great throw to the dish, gunning down the pinch runner. Lead intact, Midlothian still up 2-1. Hawkins worked a scoreless 7th to record the complete game victory, allowing one run on five hits, six punchouts, and no walks. For Legacy, Hill went the distance as well, taking the hard luck loss, allowing only one earned run on eight hits, and eight punchouts. Final Score: Midlothian 2, Legacy 1.
