2018 UIL Team Preview: Uvalde

PBR Texas Staff

The Texas high school season kicks off on February 19, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 26, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

SEASON PREVIEW

Coach Ricky Salazar and the Uvalde Coyotes return seven starters from last year's team and will rely heavily on these returnees for their success. On the mound, first team All-District RHP Michael Mata will lead the pitching staff. The left-side of the infield for the Coyotes will be held down by two All-District selections in 3B Roy Resma (1st Team) and SS Jacob Trevino (2nd Team). One youngster to look out for at Uvalde is Matthew Sandoval (2020). The southpaw should see action on the mound, at first, and in the outfield.
