CYPRESS, TX - Cross-town rivalries always make for good entertainment, in any sport. On Tuesday night, Cy Ranch and and Cy Woods matched up for just such an entertaining game. The two schools sit less than two miles from each other and the players grew up playing together and against each other, some of them play on the same summer teams.

Cy Woods entered the game with a 5-1 district record, while Cy Ranch sat undefeated at 6-0. Taking the mound for Ranch was 2018 RHP Ty Madden (Rice recruit), and No. 6 ranked prospect in Texas. While Woods would send 2017 RHP Matthew Swick (Blinn JC recruit) to the mound.

Both starters worked quickly through the first two innings, neither allowing a run. Cy Ranch would strike first on an RBI groundout by Nick Cisneros in the third inning. Cy Woods answered in the top of the fourth with two runs of their own. Woods’ catcher, Sam Gotlieb (Angelina JC recruit), would reach on an error, move up on a passed ball, then reach third base on a throwing error. The table was set for senior shortstop Zach McAdams (East Texas Baptist recruit), who laced a hard ground ball past Ranch’s shortstop, scoring Gotlieb. McAdams would score several pitches later on an RBI double by senior Garrett Kellogg-Clarke (Wharton JC recruit), putting Cy Woods up 2-1, and ultimately sealing the victory.

Both starters were sharp, throwing less than 100 pitches to go the distance without giving up an earned run. For Ranch, Ty Madden gave up two runs (both unearned), on 95 pitches, two hits, two walks and five strikeouts. After For Woods, Matthew Swick would only need 73 pitches to get the win, allowing one run (unearned), on four hits, no walks and four strikeouts.

Other Notes: Hats off to the Cy Woods student section for making the trip to Cy Ranch and cheering their guys on, they were rowdy.
