Team Preview: Lubbock Monterey
January 27, 2020
The Texas high school season kicks off on February 24, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 31, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.
Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.
We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

SEASON PREVIEW
Coach Kent Meador has preached attitude and approach to this year’s Plainsman team, the mentality Coach Meador has instilled in his players will be this team’s biggest strengths. Despite, the loss of a few key pieces the Plainsmen will return six experienced players from last year’s 28-15 regional finalist team. Due to injury RHP Lex Garcia was not able to give many innings on the mound last year, but after an impressive summer and a commitment to Texas Tech Garcia is an arm that has the ability silence an offense each time he takes the mound. 3B/1B Braden Benton, SS Dado Alaniz, and 3B Nate Davila will all be able to provide offensive productivity for Monterey. Seniors Dallan Quigley and John Long will ensure the Plainsmen will be solid defensively as well as providing some depth on the mound.
