Texas JUCO Ranking: Week 7

This week saw a ton of action across the state. There was a total of 5 sweeps of in-state teams: Hill over Vernon (4 Game), Northlake over Cedar Valley (3 Game), Wharton over Galveston (3 Game), Odessa over Frank Phillips (4 Game), and San Jac over Laredo (3 Game).

Top Two

#1 San Jac

With San Jac handed Laredo in their 3 game sweep of Laredo in quick fashion. For an in-depth breakdown go check out the Week 7 Recap.

#2 McLennan

McLennan had a 4 game series with Weatherford this past week in which they took 3 of the 4 games. The lost the first game and took the next three. Both games 2 and 3 were run rules (14-0, 10-0) with dominant performance on the mounds by SO RHP Jase Embry (uncommitted) who went 5 innings with 7 strikeouts and 1 hit in game 2; and SO LHP Grant Miller (TCU) who went 5 innings with 6 strikeouts and 2 hits in game 3. Leading the way from offensively in those two games was SO CF Brooks Embry (uncommitted) who went 3-8 with a double, 5 runs batted in, and 2 runs in those two games; and FR INF Brett Squires who went 4-6 with a double, home run, 4 runs batted in and 2 runs. They won the final game of the series in the 10th thanks to a sac fly by FR 1B/C Cole Moore that brought in FR INF Jalen Battles.

New in the Top 5

Odessa #6→ #4

Odessa played host to Frank Phillips this past weekend to open up conference play. They swept them in a dominant fashion outscoring them 30-8. Their pitching staff was led by FR RHP Chandler Arnold who threw a complete game shutout in game 3 with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk; and FR LHP Connor Carlton who also threw a complete game in game 4 with 8 strikeouts, 1  walk, and 1 unearned run. Their offense was led by SO OF Kyler Castillo (uncommitted) who was 8-12, with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 runs batted in, 7 runs, and 3 stolen bases.

Midland #12→ #10

On the Rise

Angelina #14→ #11

Angelina traveled to Louisiana to take on a hot Bossier Parish team. They took all three games. Standouts for them in the series were SO RHP Lance Lusk (Sam Houston), who controlled the mound in game 1 throwing a complete game with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks; and SO INF Rylan Meek (uncommitted) who hit .444 during the series with a home run 4 runs batted in and 5 runs.

Hill #23→ #18

Hill swept Vernon in their first conference series. Leading the way for them in the 4 games was SO 1B Josh Smeltzer and FR C Craig Keuchel. Smeltzer hit .429 with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 6 runs batted in, and 4 runs scored. Keuchel hit .467 with 2 doubles, a triple, 3 runs batted in, and 6 runs.
