Texas Spring Break: Day 1 (Houston)

The Woodlands, TX--
It was a “perfect” start to the On the Hunt 2021 Texas Spring Break Trip  as ‘21 RHP Caedmon Parker (The Woodlands Christian Academy, TX) cruised through five innings of run-rule shortened work without a blemish. The long-limbed and athletic, 6-foot-4, 185-pound right-hander over-matched his opposition with 12 total strikeouts with only three balls being put in play (all for outs) in tossing a perfect game. Linear down the mound with impressively efficient movement patterns, Parker’s quick arm provided for fastballs that worked 88-92 (2408 RPM max) with only bullpen-level effort being seen. Finding a consistent high ¾ slot, Parker exhibited quality command of the fastball to the glove side while remaining overpowering throughout. There was little need for secondary offerings in this showing, but he opted for an 11/5 curveball (low 70s, 2282 RPM) that was thrown for strikes with gradual shape. Later he flashed a firmer slider in the low 80s (2430 RPM), for strikes with shorter break and more cutter-action. Interesting to note: Parker flashed a quality changeup in warmups, and while the pitch was not warranted for use in this game, it shows clear upside in helping his case to continue as a starter moving forward. Although the two breaking balls were more “average” showings in this viewing, the clean arm stroke and athleticism shine well on the fact that his aptitude for spin may ultimately allow him to morph the two into a single pitch that grades up much higher. Overall, it is easy to dream on Parker’s future as his easy velocity will continue to trend upwards, and the clean three-pitch mix that he likely ends up with will allow him to progress as a starter.
