For the second consecutive year, the Prep Baseball Utah staff hosted the Maple Mountain Scout Day, getting another look at the program’s prospects.

With the 2026 results in, we look back at last year’s event to track the progress of seven prospects who participated in both the 2025 and 2026 Scout Days.

Below, we break down the returning group’s improvements at the plate, on the mound and across athletic, defensive and physical testing, highlighting several of the top performers along the way.

Average changes and percentage changes include all returning prospects with recorded results at both events for that metric, including players not shown and those whose results declined.

Team Hitting Data

Max EV

Five of the six returning hitters improved their maximum exit velocity. Across all six, the group averaged a 7.00 mph increase, up 8.08% from 2025.

Kingston McCloud (2028) improved from 97 to 103 mph, while Kye Ward (2029) moved from 91 to 99. Griffin Thomas (2028) recorded the largest gain, adding 12 mph to reach 95. Kasen Harrison (2029) improved from 86 to 94 mph.

Avg EV

All six returning hitters increased their average exit velocity. Across the group, average exit velocity increased by 5.60 mph, up 7.05% from 2025.

Thomas raised his average from 73.9 to 84.7 mph, while Andrew Smith (2029) improved from 71.6 to 82.0. Harrison moved from 79.0 to 87.2 mph. McCloud paired his 103 mph maximum with a 92.6 mph average.

Batted Distance

All six returning hitters increased their maximum batted distance. Across the group, maximum distance increased by an average of 32.50 feet, up 10.77% from 2025.

Harrison added 70 feet to reach 356. McCloud extended his maximum from 377 to 393 feet, while Ward improved from 306 to 344.

Team Athletic Testing Data

60 Yard Dash

Six of the seven returning prospects improved their 60 time. Across all seven, the group averaged a 0.19 second improvement, a 2.62% reduction from 2025.

Kavyn Carter (2027) lowered his time from 6.72 to 6.68 SEC. McCloud improved from 6.95 to 6.77 SEC, and Ward moved from 6.84 to 6.81. Harrison recorded the largest improvement, cutting his time from 7.81 to 7.23 SEC.

Team Defensive Data

INF/OF Velocity

Four of the five returning prospects with recorded infield or outfield velocities at both events improved. Across all five, throwing velocity increased by an average of 3.40 mph, up 4.45% from 2025.

Ward improved his infield velocity from 87 to 88 mph. Thomas added 9 mph to reach 81, while Harrison moved from 76 to 81. Grey Denison (2028) increased his outfield velocity from 70 to 72 mph.

McCloud reached 97 mph from the outfield at the 2026 Scout Day.

Catching

McCloud was the only returning catcher with throwing velocity recorded at both events. He improved from 82 to 86 mph, an increase of 4.88%. His pop time range remained 1.87 to 1.96 SEC.

Team Pitching Data

Fastballs

Three of the four returning pitchers with recorded fastball results at both events increased their maximum velocity. Across all four, maximum fastball velocity increased by an average of 3.75 mph, up 4.64% from 2025.

McCloud improved from 87 to 92 mph, while Carter moved from 88 to 90. Harrison recorded the largest gain, adding 8 mph to reach 83.

Secondary Pitches

Carter increased his slider velocity from 71 to 74 mph in 2025 to 77 to 79 mph in 2026. McCloud moved from 75 to 76 mph to 76 to 78 mph with his slider. Harrison increased his curveball velocity from 63 to 70 mph, with average spin rising from 1,774 to 2,348 rpm.

Physical Development

Physical comparisons use the measured height and weight recorded at each event.

Height

Four of the seven returning prospects recorded an increase in measured height. Across all seven, the group averaged an increase of 1.00 inch, up 1.44% from 2025.

Weight

All seven returning prospects increased their measured weight. Across the group, measured weight increased by an average of 13.43 pounds, up 9.28% from 2025.
