Uncommitted Spotlight: Jace Carroll

Scouting Report: Carroll possesses a tall build at 6'6" with big hands and feet, coupled with very long legs and a high waisted look. His frame has room to add mass and strength as he matures. Could be a late bloomer physically. From a tall setup, he takes a rock step in front to turn and pivot, while utilizing a semi hand pump for rhythm and timing. He breaks his hands high at the face and creates a fuller fluid arm swing and gets his arm up and in the power position above the shoulder at foot strike, with ext. out front. FB has seen improved velocity in recent months, as he was 81-84 in November, then showed 84-87 in the spring, Jace recently touched 90.6 at the Area Code tryouts with clearly a higher ceiling. The CB 69-73 has quality depth and solid TQ shape with the right differential off the FB. The CB is the highest spin rate of any Utah HS pitcher in the state at 2458. The CH between 75-81 shows some fade with FB arm speed. As his FB jumps, the CH will space enough to be an effective 3rd pitch in time. Intriguing body, mechanics, projectability and ability to throw K’s. Reminds me of former MLB RHP-Brandon McCarthy.
