Outlook
A year of experience added to this roster with the majority of starters returning from a successful 2017 campaign gives much reason to believe 2018 could be the season the Cyclones make a run. Offensively senior SS/RHP Zach Thomas (King) will anchor the order coming off an impressive season hitting well over .500 and putting up offensive player of the year type numbers. Expect fellow seniors Josh Woodard (Emory & Henry) and Garrett Robinson to build off their solid junior seasons to add protection to Thomas in the lineup. 1B/RHP Walker Chilton (Mary Washington) adds another solid bat in this lineup that will compete from top to bottom that also includes Daniel Jones, Dawson Nacarrato and Tillman Butler. On the mound LHP Wesley Payne (Averett) will be one of the top arms on the staff along with Thomas. Payne went 5-0 in his junior season averaging better than a strikeout per inning. Keep an eye out for Butler who should develop nicely heading into his sophomore campaign for the Cyclones. Look for Blake Fox and Lance Yoder to see increased roles this season. The Cyclones looked poised to make another run this spring and the experience coming back could make them a team to watch out for in 4A this spring.
