Prep Baseball Report VA/DC has expanded its Class of 2017 Rankings from 55 to 76 players in preparation for the 2016 high school season. Throughout the spring, we will adjust and add to these rankings as we get out on the road to see games and players. Here is a quick look at some of the newcomers to the rankings:

Logan Dickinson, RHP/3B, Hayfield
Dickinson has a lanky frame that is beginning to fill out. He has a good arm action and a ton of upside on the mound with a long, quick arm action. Dickinson’s breaking ball has a lot of potential as it tightens.

Grant Johnson, RHP/1B, Liberty Christian Academy
Johnson is a good athlete and plays quarterback for the Bulldogs. He has a very good frame and good feel for a three pitch mix with a swing and miss breaking ball and a deceptive change-up.

Nick Karlinchak, LHP/1B, West Springfield
Karlinchak has a good frame and throws from a low slot with a good arm action and a lot of deception from his delivery. He has good feel for his fastball and breaking ball combination and is poised to have a big spring.

Brandon Luke, RHP, Centreville
Luke has shown feel for three pitches in the past and the ability to command them and attack hitters. He has seen a velocity jump this winter and is in position to be a big part of how far the Wildcats go this spring as he steps into a bigger role.

Josh Pittman, RHP/MIF, Highland
Pittman is an athletic two-way player who has a good command and movement on his fastball and a swing and miss breaking ball. Pittman is also a good defender in the infield and is a good line drive hitter.

Tre’von Smith, OF, Orange County
Smith has a strong frame and explosive bat speed with very real power. He is pretty quick on his fit and has some of the best pure power potential in the Class of 2017.
