Fall Invite: Outfielder Analysis

In November, PBR VA/DC hosted a combined Fall Event at Virginia Sportsplex. Originally, we were set to host an Underclass Fall Invite at Old Dominion and an Unsigned Senior Showcase at Virginia Sportsplex, but inclement weather forced us to cancel the event at ODU and combine the two events into our Fall Invite, which featured players from the classes of 2018, 2019, and 2020 and represented all corners of the Commonwealth.

Today, we continue our detailed analysis of the event by looking at the outfielders who participated in the event. Look for breakdowns of the middle infielders and pitchers in the coming weeks.

Jonathan Compton C/OF Gate City 2020
Athletic physical frame at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. Ran a 6.69 60-yard dash on damp track. Hits from an open set up with high hands above the shoulder. Short load with leg lift squaring up to baseball. Gets into backside and gets nice hip explosion through contact. Hands are short, simple, and quick to the ball that free up as they extend through contact. Did get long at times during BP, getting around the ball, but showed fast bat speed and power potential at the plate. Exit velo of 94 mph. Active feet in the outfield with sound hands to exchange with a short arm action. Worked thru ball well with throws up to 85 mph.

Dylan Fisher OF Highland 2019

Hips rotate completely, good balance throughout swing. Short and quick to the ball, level line drive swing when working gap to gap, gets uphill some to pull side, extension through the ball, exit velocity was 79. In the outfield, clean feet, gets behind ball well and plays through it, fields with above average hands. Clean quick exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, outfield velocity was 77.

Brian Hennessey OF/RHP W.T. Woodson 2018
Hennessey is 6-0 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back to an arm bar. Hips rotate fully with some balance to swing. Works straight to the ball, showed good approach, working gap to gap, line drive swing, exit velocity was 85. In the outfield, fields ball with average hands and works through it to a clean exchange. Throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, free arm action, outfield velocity was 84.
