Kettle Run Captures Northwestern District Championship

On Thursday night, Kettle Run took on Sherando in the Northwestern District Championship. The Cougars got out to an early lead and rode a strong pitching performance to win the game in a combined shutout, 3-0. Senior RHP Zach Ewald (CNU) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five hits, three walks and six strikeouts. Reliever Sophomore LHP Dan Dispanet closed the game, pitching 1.1 innings. Dispanet retired all four batters he faced. Kettle Run’s offense was led by Junior Joe Vogatsky (JMU), who went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI’s. Ewald also collected two hits, with a triple.

Senior RHP Michael Usa took the loss for Sherando, allowing two runs on five hits over two innings.  Senior RHP Jared Tinsman was solid in relief, completing five innings, no walks, 1 run on 4 hits. Sherando had five hits in the game, with seniors Nicholas Mazza and Jack Duvall (Shenandoah) each with two hits.

Both teams will advance to the 4C Region tournament next week, with Sherando travelling to Riverside and Kettle Run hosting Loudoun County in Tuesday night's semifinal round.
