Parsons commits to Dartmouth

By John Nolan
Assistant Director of Scouting

Norfolk Academy LHP Michael Parsons has committed to attend Dartmouth College in the fall of 2016. Parsons will follow former teammate Isiah Nelson (LHP, 2015, Old Dominion) and current battery mate Matt Cooper (C, 2017, Clemson) to Division I. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start during the 2015 season, but went 14-3 down the stretch to finish strong before being eliminated in the TCIS semifinals and narrowly missing the VISAA Division I State Tournament.

Parsons has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a long, stiff arm action with a bit of a wrap and a quick armstroke that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are on line and slightly uphill as he strides out on line to a slightly opened landing before falling off a bit as he finishes. His fastball has heavy armside run and good downhill plane. His curveball is thrown with good armspeed and has sharp 1/7 break to it. He also has a fading changeup that is thrown with good armspeed. He has good command of all three pitches.

When Parsons arrives at Dartmouth, he figures to able to contribute immediately as a weekday starter and reliever on the weekends who will be especially tough on lefties, but still capable of getting right handers out because of his good changeup. As his career progresses, Parsons has the athletic ability and the pitch repertoire to develop into a weekend starter for the Big Green.

Congrats Michael!!!
