In mid-October, Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC hosted its Central VA Open ID at Hanover High School in Virginia. Here is a look at the pitchers that took part in the event:

Antonio Balducci, LHP/1B, Hanover, 2017
Balducci has a lanky frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with an explosive drop and drive delivery. His arm action is short and quick and he generates velocity with some effort. His shoulders are closed and uphill as he strides out to a square landing before falling off as he finishes. Balducci’s fastball sat 78-80 on the day and had heavy run to it. His breaking ball had late, power 12/6 action and ran 64-68 with good armspeed. His changeup was thrown with decent armspeed and ran 70-73 with fading action. Balducci showed feel of all three pitches.

Dalton Davis, LHP/OF, Atlee, 2017
Davis has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a choppy tall and fall delivery. His arm action is short and a bit stiff as he generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are uphill and on line as he strides out to a square landing before coming to an athletic finish. Davis’ fastball ran 71-74 and had slight armside run as well as some downhill plane to it. His curveball was thrown with decent armspeed and had big, gradual 10/4 break to it and ran 57-60. His changeup was thrown with good armspeed and ran 63-65. He showed the ability to command all three pitches.

Nicholas Griffin, LHP/1B, Thomas Dale, 2017
Griffin is a lanky lefty and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a tall and fall delivery. His arm action is short and a bit stiff and he generates velocity with normal effort. His shoulders are downhill and slightly closed as he strides out to a square landing before falling off a bit as he finishes. Griffin’s fastball has heavy armside run and ran 65-69. His slider had big, gradual 10/4 break and ran 54-57. His changeup was thrown with good armspeed and had hard fading action to it, running 58-63. Griffin showed decent feel for all three pitches and the ability to work down in the zone with them.

Matthew Kleinfelter, RHP/1B, Lancaster, 2019
Kleinfelter has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a tall and fall delivery. He has a short, quick arm action that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are closed an elevated as he takes a short stride to a slightly closed landing before falling off slightly as he finishes. Kleinfelter’s fastball has good downward plane to it and some late run, sitting 81-83. He switched between two-seamers and four-seamers, with his two-seamers having more sink to them. His curveball had late 11/5 break to it and ran 67-68. His slider ran 77-81 and played more like a good cutter with 10/4 break, with the potential to become a plus pitch as the spin tightens. His changeup was thrown with good armspeed and had heavy fading action to it, running 74-78.

Will Lopez, LHP/OF, Hanover, 2018
Lopez has an athletic frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with an explosive drop and drive delivery. He has a short, loose arm action and a lightning quick arm that generates easy velocity. His shoulders are high and closed and he swings into a square landing before falling off as he finishes. Lopez’s fastball had some plane to it and some late run and was 76-80 on the day. His curveball has power 12/6 break and was thrown with good armspeed, running 62-65. His changeup was thrown with decent armspeed and had late run to it, sitting 65-69.

Robert Marker, LHP, Midlothian, 2017
Marker is a lanky lefty and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. His arm action is short and loose and he generates easy velocity. His shoulders are on line and uphill as he strides out to a square landing before falling off as he finishes. Marker’s fastball has sink and heavy run and was 71-74. His slider had late 2/8 action to it and was thrown with good armspeed, running 60-63. He slowed his arm a bit on his changeup, but it had good fading action to it and ran 65-69.

Cole Wallace
, RHP/OF, Hanover, 2019
Wallace has a lanky frame and throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. He has a long, loose arm action and generates easy velocity. His shoulders are uphill and on line as he strides out to a square landing before falling off slightly as he finishes. Wallace’s fastball has good downward plane and some sinking action to and sat 68-71. His curveball had power 11/5 action and ran 59-60. His slider had late 10/4 action and was 64-65. Wallace slowed his arm down a bit on his changeup, but had good sinking action to it and ran 63-65. He has good feel for all of his pitches.
