Tuesday night saw the weather clear and a perfect early may night for baseball in Ashburn as defending Class 4 champ Broad Run took on Briar Woods. Broad Run tabbed senior lefty Jackson Myers (Mary Washington) for the start, and Briar Woods set up a bullpen game by starting freshman righty Connor Prezioso.
Broad Run would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after an Ethan Walker (Walters CC) two-out triple and an error on a grounder by the next batter. Myers shut down Briar Woods in the first two innings and Prezioso tossed a scoreless second inning.
Jackson Vincent took over in the top of the third and would throw very well, taking the game into the sixth without allowing any more damage from the Spartan offense. Briar Woods took the lead in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of a pair of wild pitches with two outs to score both runs. The Falcons tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of a Nick Hamm RBI double and the Hamm eventually scoring on a passed ball.
Brayden Fetterman had entered the game in the sixth and escaped a jam for the Falcons. He got the first two outs quickly in the top of the seventh and he was poised to close the game out with a 4-1 win, but nine hitter Peter McConnell ripped a single to right to turn the lineup over and keep the inning alive. Sean Ryan followed that with a single and Jon Montagne (John Logan College) doubled into the leftfield corner, driving in two to cut the deficit to 4-3 and bring back up Walker. Walker delivered the game-tying single to extend the game.
Myers exited after the seventh and was relieved by Ryan. The game continued with no additional runs being scored in the eighth or ninth as both teams managed threats but escaped. Finally, in the bottom of the tenth, Clint Burke hammered a leadoff double to left-center. After being bunted down to third, Fetterman came to the plate with the infield in and delivered the walk-off RBI single to win the game and snap Briar Woods' six-game skid.

Vincent had the best outing of the six Briar Woods arms who threw, going 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing 3 hits and no walks with 3 strikeouts. For Broad Run, Walker finished 2-5 with a 3B and an RBI and Alex Estes was 2-4 with a 2B. Myers finished his 7 innings with just 3 hits allowed and 12 strikeouts.

Max Lawson SS / 2B / Briar Woods , VA / 2025Lawson is 5-11 with a lankier athletic frame that has plenty of room to add strength and projection left. Impressive night at shortstop. Showed lateral quickness and range, took good angles and always rounded and worked through ball. Soft quick hands, very quick exchange, lower arm slot with short loose arm action. Arm strength is average now but that will improve as he adds physical strength to his frame. Accurate thrower and showed a good internal clock, knowing based on a runner whether he needed to get a throw off quick or take his time. At the plate, hits from the right side. Four plate appearances in the game, was asked to sacrifice bunt twice and was successful both times, showing bat control and doing a good job of catching the ball with his bat. In the two at-bats he got to swing, he hit a pair of balls sharply to short for groundouts. Slightly open athletic stance, keeps hands inside and is very short to contact, level to contact and finishes uphill. Swing mechanics are there, will add batspeed as he adds strength to his frame and should grow into at least gap power in the middle of the field. Showed a line drive and contact approach. Overall a lot of upside for Lawson, who will be interesting to follow as he continues to develop.
