Scouting Report on Brown from the Spring:
Brown hits from the left side from an open stance. He has a smooth load back and fluid rhythm. He has a short swing path and good extension through the baseball and an explosive lower half. He has consistent gap power to all fields with home run power to his pull side. Behind the plate, he throws from a loose, high three-quarters arm slot. He has a quiet setup with soft hands and is a good receiver. He has clean footwork and gains ground towards second base. At the Pre-Season All State Showcase in February, his pop times were 1.94-2.08. During a game in April, his throwing ability was on display as he caught three Covenant runners with perfect throws to the corner of the bag. He also is aggressive and good at back picking base runners. Brown was a key offensive cog for a young Greenbrier squad that went beyond expectations to win the VISAA Division II Championship this spring.

Analysis:

Brown will have a lot of value at the next level. He projects to be a middle of the lineup bat that will hit for power and high average with enough speed to go first to third. Defensively, he should be able to stick behind the plate, but he is athletic enough that he could probably move to a corner infield or corner outfield slot in order to get his bat into the lineup earlier in his career. Ultimately, he will offer the most value as a lefthanded run producer at catcher, where schools often go with defense-first players and sacrifice offensive production. Brown has the talent to produce offensively and be good defender behind the plate.
