Updated Class of 2016 Rankings

As the 2015 season comes to a close and players enter their offseason programs in preparation for the 2016 high school season, we at Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC have taken some time to update and adjust our rankings for the Class of 2016. We have additions to the rankings as well as some players who had strong summers or falls and jumped up the board. The Virginia/DC Class of 2016 is one of the deepest and most talented of any state in the country. Here is a look at some changes at the top of the class.

Top of the Class

South Carolina commit Joe Rizzo (3B, Oakton) has taken over the top spot in the Class of 2016 rankings after an outstanding showing at the East Coast Pro Showcase on the rest of the elite showcase circuit during the summer. Rizzo has elite power projection and can play good defense at third. Rizzo has the tools to be an early draft pick in June’s Major League Draft.

Liberty-bound Khalil Lee (OF, Flint Hill) has moved up to the second spot in the rankings. Lee is an elite athlete and incredibly toolsy. Over the summer he showed the ability to tap into that potential, as he has a 90+ arm from the outfield, sub-7 speed, and gap power that projects to become home run power.

The rest of the top five is rounded out by three elite righthanded arms, all of whom are draft prospects next spring. Tennessee is getting a good one with a four pitch mix and good command in Garrett Stallings (RHP, Grassfield). Zach Hess (RHP/1B, Liberty Christian) will join Stallings in the SEC next fall after he decommitted from Virginia Tech in October and signed with Louisiana State. 2015 NCAA National Champion Virginia will continue its recent tradition of building with talented in-state arms such as Bobby Nicholson (RHP, St. Anne’s-Belfield).
