8/8/14 - Nicholson relieved Jeff Belge and pitched two innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out one. A Virginia recruit, he already pitches with what is considered the UVA delivery, crouching slightly in his windup. While the cookie cutter approach gets panned by scouts and opposing coaches, it seems to be working for Nicholson. He comes from a three-quarter slot and gets good life on his fastball, which ranged from 85-91. He also showed a tight slider at 78-80 and mixed in a low-80s changeup. He has a projectable frame and showed off his athleticism making a play off the mound.
