EC Glass

Michael Harpster RHP / SS / EC Glass, VA / 2023

The story of the night was Michael Harpster. The 6-foot-1 right hander dominated. Thin frame, long loose arm, and works from a low three-quarter arm slot. The fastball was 88-90 through the first half of the game. It held pretty well throughout, sitting in the 86-89 range in the sixth and seventh innings. One of the biggest takeaways was his ability to generate whiffs on the fastball. In, out, up, or down, it did not matter the location. The fastball played especially well in the upper portion of the zone, highlighting the high spin and ride that he brings to the table. The fastball spin rate ranged from higher 2300's and got up to 2636 RPM early. He showed just two pitches, the fastball and a slider. The slider sat at 75-78 mph and varied in action. Got more sweep when in the 75-76 range and flashed some hard late depth in the 77-78 mph range. Spin rate on the slider stayed in the 2400-mid 2500 range throughout. Harpster tallied eighteen strikeouts on the night and was one of the most dominating performances I have seen this year. He is an uncommitted 2023 that is quickly making his ascent up recruiting boards.

Liberty Christian

Lane Duff LHP / 1B / Liberty Christian Academy , VA / 2023

It has been a while since we have gotten a chance to see Duff on the mound. The body has really matured. Low effort delivery that repeats well. Hands break in rhythm, full arm swing, and clean arm from a high three-quarter slot. The fastball sat 82-84 mph and touched 85 once. The breaking ball sat 72-74 mph with 12/6 shape and had more downer action and less horizontal break.

Logan Duff C / OF / Liberty Christian, VA / 2022

Wanted to just take a minute and point out the toughness and leadership that the Randolph-Macon commit displays on the field. Plays with some fire and seems to really love the game. Handles his staff well, solid blocker, and accurate, aggressive thrower from behind the plate. Got banged up a little bit throughout the night, but he never wavered. Had two of the four LCA hits on the night, the first a line drive into left center on a slider that was down on the inner half of the plate.

Will Palmer LHP / OF / Liberty Christian academy, VA / 2023

6-foot-1, 190-pound solid frame. Slightly crouched setup, Full arm swing and works from a three-quarter slot. Lands closed and has slight crossfire, creating angle on the fastball that worked best inside to right handers. The fastball sat 83-86 mph, topping at 87 during his first two innings and fluctuated a bit at times. The breaking ball had bigger shape at 66-69 mph and had the best action when he got it out front, working to the glove side. Showed one changeup at 76 mph.

John Simmons 3B / SS / Liberty Christian, VA / 2023

6-foot, 183-pound solid athletic frame. Simmons had two of the four hits for LCA. Accurate barrel, doubles power to all fields, and more to the pull side. The arm strength has increased and played well on the left side. Jumped on the mound later in the game and showcased the added arm strength, getting up to 88. Simmons plays the game with energy and is an intense competitor. Enjoy watching the Future Games alum and Liberty commit.
