A cool Wednesday night for late May saw top-seeded Tuscarora host Heritage (Leesburg) in the Dulles District Tournament semifinals. As the regular season champ, Tuscarora has a spot in the Region 4C playoffs next week, with the lone remaining spot from the Dulles District going to the tournament champ or highest finisher after Tuscarora. With that being the case, Heritage was facing a win to extend their season, and both teams went with top arms, Heritage starting senior righthander Josh Rivera (UMBC) and Tuscarora going with junior righty Cole Keel

Overall, both pitchers were very good as a classic pitcher's duel took place. The Pride opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the second as they strung together singles from three of their first four hitters, with Josh Holland delivering the game's first run, followed by an RBI groundout. Tuscarora would respond with a run in the bottom of the second on a 2-out Nick Sheehan RBI single.

Heritage would tack a run on in the fifth, but as was said earlier, the story of the game was the pitching as the two teams combined for just 9 hits, all of which were singles. Rivera would finish the game and pick up the 3-1 win for the Pride with a final line of 7 innings, 1 run on 4 H, 9 K, and 2 BBs. Holland and Alec Jones each were 1-3 with an RBI for the Pride. For Tuscarora, Keel went 6 IP and allowed 3 R on 5 H while also going 2-3 at the plate. Bauer Burkart was 0-1 with 2 BB and threw a perfect inning of relief with a strikeout.
