Patriot took an early lead after a flurry of walks and a Matthew Boyd (Lock Haven) single to make it 2-0 Pioneers in the first. Colgan would answer with a Brett Renfrow (Virginia Tech) solo homerun in the bottom half. Fellow Virginia Tech commit Carter Newman would tie it with an RBI double in the second and Caden Colangelo would give Colgan a lead they would never relinquish. Colgan moved on to win by a score of 9-2.

Grady Lenahan 2B / OF / Patriot, VA / 2025

Athletic frame with a high waist. Square stance at the plate with a slight squat at setup. Hands are tight and set high, small lift to stride landing on line, and hands separate late. Level path swing and will continue to advance with added strength. Ran a 4.26 home to first on a groundout. Will be interesting to watch the development of this 2025.

Sean McCloy LHP / LHP / Patriot, VA / 2023

Level shoulders and hips moving down the mound. Short arm action and throws from a very low three-quarter to side-arm slot. The slot raises slightly on the breaking ball. The fastball sat 77-79 mph and touched 80 once. While working to the arm side it flashed some sink and then when he tried to go in on right handers there was some crossfire to the release and delivery. The breaking ball had 2/8 shape at 66-67 mph.

Colgan

Jae'dan Carter C / Colgan, VA / 2023

The Dayton commit continues to impress every time I see him. Advanced offensive skillset, high end bat speed, and a knack for finding the barrel. Level path swing with some pull side tendency. Had two hits on the night, both being singles through the left side. He has continued to improve on the defensive side. Receiving has gotten quieter, hands stronger, and does a nice job handling his staff. Has above average arm strength and showed it off on a blown bunt play. The runner at second got hung out and Carter forced the runner to make a choice in the direction he was going. Once the runner began retreating to second, Carter threw a strike on the bag to prevent a potential big inning for Patriot.

Carter Newman SS / 2B / Colgan, VA / 2022

Thin athletic frame with a defense first profile. Lateral range, quick and clean exchanges, accurate arm, and makes it look easy on the defensive side. At the plate it is a rhythmic load, gets down on line, and a level path to contact. Hands stayed back on a breaking ball and doubled into left center tying up the game in the second. Virginia Tech commit.

Brett Renfrow OF / RHP / Charles Colgan, VA / 2023

Renfrow continues to display the physical advancements he has made. Has added visible strength and physicality throughout his frame since I last saw him about a year ago. At the plate it is a square stance, short simple stride on line, and hands are short to contact. Does a really nice job getting the barrel turned with his advanced bat speed and accelerates through contact. Hit a homerun in his first at bat on an elevated fastball. Later on Renfrow put the exclamation point on the game with a two RBI single through the left side.

On the mound he was 86-89 with the fastball and touched 90 twice. Showed mostly a two pitch mix early in his relief appearance, with the fastball and a 81 mph changeup. The fastball showed some command to the glove side and the higher slot leveraged it downhill. The changeup was a straight change and he was able to get it to the glove side as well.
