2014 LHP Cal Giese still on the market

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Illinois/Wisconsin

Stevens Point made a terrific run in the spring of 2013 making their way all the way to the state championship game against Sun Prairie. Stevens Point would lose that game by a final of 5-4 in eight innings, but losing just six players to graduation should bode well for the Panthers in 2014.

One of the main cogs in the Panthers playoff run was LHP Cal Giese. Giese finished the season with a 7-0 record and a 1.41 ERA. In 64.2 innings pitched he struck out 86 and walked 34. Giese continued his excellent spring season into the summer with the Plover Black Sox Post 543 legion team.Cal Giese

His performances on the mound have not gone unnoticed, as Giese said he has made visits to St. Cloud State and Winona State, both back in August. He is in the midst of scheduling more between his busy high school football season.

Currently the No. 20 ranked player in Wisconsin’s 2014 class, we asked Giese more about what he’s looking for. He said he would prefer to stay within a six hour driving distance from home, and have the opportunity to compete right away at the college level.

Giese also said he has been solid in the classroom with a 25 on his ACT and a 3.96 GPA.
