Another recent Wisconsin commitment

By Steve Nielsen

We recently spotlighted Portage HS senior Beau Zeihen in an unsigned senior spotlight. Zeihen has now committed to Iowa Western CC.

Zeihen is an athletic 6-foot-3, 170-pound catcher and outfielder. Last season he helped lead the Warriors to a Division 2 state title as they defeated Ellsworth HS 8-3.

Zeihen is hoping to do the same for a Reivers squad who is the reigning NJCAA National Champion and coming off of six straight World Series appearances.

At the plate, Zeihen displays a short path to the baseball, he is a gap to gap hitter who looks to work the middle of the field, and his swing shows solid extension and balance throughout.

Zeihen shows advanced athleticism and feel for the game. He shows the ability to play both the outfield and catch. Defensively, he shows the ability to play through the baseball well in the outfield. He uses an aggressive crow hop with advanced outfield action and excellent lateral movement. His foot speed is excellent as he runs a 6.79 in the 60.

Behind the plate Zeihen shows excellent flexibility. His setup is quiet and low, he features soft hands receiving the baseball and is quick on his feet when blocking to both sides.

Zeihen will bring a versatile game to the Reivers and will hope to contribute to another winning season in Council Bluffs, IA.
