DE PERE, WI - In a matchup between two teams sitting in the middle of the Fox River Classic Conference standings, De Pere used a big 4th inning to defeat Sheboygan South 6-1.

The Redbirds sent southpaw Tyler Rouze, their workhorse for most of the year, out to the mound, while South countered with Connor Harrison.

De Pere had a number of opportunities to score with runners in scoring position, but they didn’t break through until the later stages of the game.

The Redwings struck first in the top of the 3rd. AJ Gutierrez drove in a run with a single to right field. However, from that point onward it was all De Pere.

After they failed to score a run in the first three innings despite getting five guys on base, the Redbirds finally opened the floodgates in the bottom of the 4th. A wild pitch allowed De Pere to tie the game up at one run apiece before three consecutive hits pushed four runs across the plate. Carson Jacques knocked in two runs with a single to right field and Emmett Kulick drilled a two-run home run to left to do all of the damage for the Redbirds.

With the win practically in hand already, De Pere added another insurance run in the bottom of the 6th via an error on Sheboygan South.

The Redwings were unable to get a sustained rally going against Rouze, who was dominant for De Pere all game long. He pitched seven innings, struck out eight, scattered four hits, and allowed one earned run. On the other hand, Harrison gave up five earned runs and walked five, despite striking out six batters.

Kulick finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, home run, and 2 RBIs for De Pere, while teammate Connor Rutherford went 1-for-3 with a walk. Gutierrez, Jared Reklaitis, and Alex Feudner each went 1-for-3 for Sheboygan South.

De Pere moved to 12-13 with the win, while Sheboygan South fell to 11-13. The Redbirds have already locked up the #6 seed in their sectional, while South found out their postseason fate on Wednesday night.
