Future Games Preview: Matt DeYoung

The Prep Baseball Report Future Games is a one-of-a-kind event featuring the top 2016 prospects from across our 10 state coverage area. This year taking place at Grand Park in Westfield, IN from July 31-August 2, hundreds of scouts from across the country will fill the stands to watch some of the top uncommitted 2016 prospects across our coverage area.

Last year Wisconsin’s Class of 2015 Future Games Team went undefeated and has already seen eight Division 1 commitments from that roster. Over the next several months we will begin to unveil prospects who have been selected to participate in this year's event with a brief history and bio of the player and what we can expect from him at the PBR Future Games.

Matt DeYoung is a raw physical specimen at 6-foot-4, 205-pounds. Offensively he hits from the left side and projects to be a big power bat in a corner outfield position. DeYoung has fast twitch hands offensively and creates advanced bat speed. We’ve seen De Young post 90 mph exit speeds off the tee several times.

Defensively DeYoung will most likely project at a corner outfield spot, he flashes tools defensively but his actions can be refined. His arm plays well enough for either corner spot and has enough athleticism to play at either spot in the future.

DeYoung also has possibilities on the mound as he’s reached 85 mph with downhill action. DeYoung’s projection might be better with the bat but either way he will be a highly interesting prospect to follow at the PBR Future Games.
