Labor Day Challenge: GRB Rays Preview

The 2015 Labor Day Challenge will take place September 5 – 6 at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood, IL. This year’s event features five high level teams with prospects from around the state of Illinois and beyond.

Throughout the week we will bring you a quick preview as to what to look for out of the participating teams. Today we highlight the GRB Rays.

The Rays roster consists of strictly Wisconsin prospects, and the Rays will be bringing some of the top ranked prospects in their respective classes.

Gonzaga commits LHP Keaton Knueppel (Verona Area, 2016) and RHP/3B Taylor Borchers (Appleton North, 2016) highlight the roster along with speedy CF Zach Gilles (McDonnell Central, 2016, Central Michigan). All three are top 20 prospects in Wisconsin.

The Rays 2016s will also feature three of the top uncommitted prospects in the state in OF Ben Carew (Kimberly), C Trent Bauer (Green Bay East) and LHP Jordan Krueger (Mukwonago).

Two Wisconsin Future Gamers are also featured on the roster as OF Nick Elsen (Indian Trail) and OF Carl Valk (Appleton North) headline their 2017s.

The Rays roster also boasts two of the top ten 2018 prospects in C Stephen Lund (Verona Area) and RHP Dillon Nowicki (Stoughton).

Also keep an eye out for 2019 left-handed hitting catcher Nathan Stevens (Waunakee). We saw Stevens early this spring and again at the Junior Future Games and he continues to stand out as an early candidate for one of the top prospects in that class.
