Labor Day Challenge: Hitters Baseball Recap

The Hitters Baseball program might not have won as many games as they would have liked to at the Prep Baseball Report Labor Day Challenge, but they beat in state rival GRB Rays and many of their players stood out with performances that we have yet to see.

Hitters went 1-3 on the weekend beating the GRB Rays while losing to Top Tier, St. Louis Gamers and Ohio Elite. Here’s a quick recap of all their games and top performers.

Ohio Elite 5, Hitters 3

Hitters fell by a final score of 5-3. The Hitters scored runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings falling just short of Ohio Elite. Doran Turchin scored two of those runs after reaching on walks. Vinnie Hubli drove in Turchin for the first run with an RBI double to the left center gap. Mike Bauer then drove in Turchin for the third run of the game after Bauer came through with a big two out single.


Game Stats:

+ Doran Turchin scored two runs going 1-for-2 with two walks.

+ Vinnie Hubli went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

+ John Keane was 2-for-2 with a walk and two singles.

Gamers 10, Hitters 4

The Gamers (4-0), winners and one of the hottest teams in the tournament, beat the Hitters 10-4. Hitters got on top early scoring two runs in the first after Owen Miller led things off with a double. John Keane added an RBI triple. Hitters scored one more in the third and one in the fourth. Miller scored again in the third getting it started with a single which was followed by a bullet to right field off the bat of Doran Turchin for a double. Sam Prissel scored in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Alex Marro.


Game Stats:

+ Owen Miller went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

+ John Keane had two hits in three at bats, including an RBI triple.

+ Alex Marro was 1-for-1 with a sacrifice fly RBI and a walk.

+ Doran Turchin had an RBI going 1-for-3 with a double.

Top Tier 9, Hitters 0

The Hitters were blanked in their third game of the tournament losing by a score of 9-0. Owen Miller and Mike Bauer recorded the only two hits of the game for the Hitters. Miller singled in the first while Bauer singled in his only at bat in the third.

+ Mike Bauer went 1-for-1 with a single.

Hitters 8, GRB Rays 4

On the tournament the Hitters had several top performers on the weekend. Here’s a look at weekend stats for some of the top Hitters.

+ Owen Miller went 5-for-13 with three runs scored and an RBI, including a triple and a double.

+ Mike Bauer had a 4-for-11 weekend with four RBI.
