Continuing our analysis of the Madison Preseason I.D., we take a look at the top infield prospects. Sorted, by class, these top prospects feature a variety of savvy middle infielders and big bat corner guys.

Here’s a look at the top infield prospects:

Top 2018 Infield Prospects

1. Jeff Holtz, C/3B, Arrowhead, 2018
Indiana commit. Lanky frame started to fill out this winter, up 20 pounds from the summer, 6-foot-4, 207-pound catcher. Premium right-handed bat, squared setup, smooth loading action, on time, leg lift stride, lower half works, excellent balance throughout. Loose hands, hard contact, shows bat strength, confident approach in the box, gap to gap contact, gets extension through contact. 101 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played at 78 mph out of the crouch and 85 mph across the diamond, short over the top slot, showed it could play athletically on the infield, carries. 1.89-2.01 pop times, above average receiver, actions on the infield will play well at third base. 6.93 runner in the 60.

2. Bryce Parrish, 3B, Whitewater, 2018
6-foot-4, 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman with a strong, athletic frame. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load and leg lift stride. Short, level swing path with a fast bat. Line drive gap to gap hitter. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.10. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Threw showed carry across the infield at 83 mph. Plays thru the ball with a clean exchange and soft hands.

3. Ryan Venne, 3B, Eau Claire North, 2018
6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitting third baseman with an athletic frame. At the plate hits from an open stance with a short leg lift stride and good balance. Short, level swing path with fluid rhythm. Gap to gap approach with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.21. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Accurate throws, plays thru the ball. Threw 80 mph across the infield.

4. Connor Manthey, C/INF, Columbus, 2018
Bradley commit. Strong 6-foot-1, 215-pound catcher/third baseman. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, quiet load, short stride. Physical hitter, bat strength, easy pop, hard contact to pull side, loose hands. 93 mph exit velocity from the tee. Arm action is short and over the top, carried at 79 mph. 2.04-2.08 pop times, clean exchange. Third base type infielder, arm carried at 83 mph across. 7.42 runner in the 60.

5. Matthew Rozsypal, SS/RHP, Lake Forest Academy, 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting SS/RHP. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a toe tap stride and good balance. Line drive hitter with fluid rhythm and loose hands. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.89. Defensively showed a raw arm strength across the infield throwing 89 mph. Short, quick arm action from a high ¾ slot. Athletic actions with a long exchange and steps before release. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing and some effort. Fastball sat 82-83 topping out at 84 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 69-72 mph.

6. Frankie Cistaro, SS, Muskego, 2018
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. At the plate hits from a narrow setup with a leg lift stride and good balance. Line drive, gap to gap hitter. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.17. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Plays thru the ball with a compact exchange. Threw 83 mph across the infield.

7. Nolan Kelliher, SS, Middleton, 2018
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with an athletic frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and good balance. Pull hitter with a short swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.21. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Athletic actions with fluid footwork and a clean exchange. Effort in release, threw 83 mph across the infield.

8. Hunter Wickman, 3B, Mount Horeb, 2018
6-foot-1, 212-pound right-handed hitting third baseman with a strong frame. At the plate hits from a tall, open setup with a leg kick stride. Pull, power approach at the plate. Short, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 94 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.30. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 80 mph across the infield.

9. Aaron Chapman, SS, Waterford, 2018
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with a strong, athletic frame. Offensively hits from an open setup with a long, leg kick stride. Fast bat with a long, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 93 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.14. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Threw 81 mph across the infield.

10. Adam Zeratsky, SS/OF/RHP, Appleton North, 2018

6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitting utility player with an athletic frame. Offensively hits from a tall, slightly open setup with a short stride. Loose hands with an uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. 6.89 runner in the 60. Defensively played the infield and outfield, projects for the outfield, plays thru the ball, threw 83 mph from the outfield. Threw 84 mph across the infield.  On the mound works from an over the top slot with a short, loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery. Fastball sat 79, topping out at 81 mph. Curveball sat 65-68 mph. Changeup sat 70-72 mph.

Top 2019 Infield Prospects

1. Bennett Frazer, SS/OF, Oconto, 2019
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting SS/OF. At the plate hits from a balanced, open setup with a short heel turn stride and good balance. Pull hitter with a short, uphill swing path with fluid rhythm. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.11. Defensively has a short, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws across the infield at 85 mph. Athletic actions, with a clean exchange and fluid footwork. Plays low thru the ball with soft hands. Also took drills in the outfield showing off raw arm strength by throwing 89 mph.

2. Tucker Cole, INF, Dixon (IL), 2019
5-foot-10, 145-pound infielder, wiry build. Well above average defender, hands play soft, cushions the baseball, fluid footwork. 7.69 runner in the 60. Arm plays short and over the top, accurate across at 84 mph, flashed carry, arm played athletically on the move. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, narrow setup, loads hands back with leg lift trigger. Line drive gap to gap approach, loose hands create bat speed, 87 mph exit velocity from the tee.

3. Connor Handel, C/INF/RHP, Edgewood, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound multi-positional player, solid build. Defensively arm action is short, over the top and carries, 84 mph across the diamond, 77 mph out of the crouch. Profiles as a catcher/third base type, feet work well out of the chute, quick exchange, 1.99-2.05 pops. Hands play on the infield, average range and body control, plays tall at times with actions. 7.23 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, open setup, leg lift stride with good balance. Raw bat speed and flashes pop, aggressive swing on level plane. 94 mph exit velocity from the tee. On the mound showed a versatile three pitch mix. Fastball is straight and pounds the zone, touched 83 mph, 79-82 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, showed feel with short break, 66-71 mph. Straight changeup occasionally showed cut, 72-74 mph.

4. Jimmy Juergensen, 1B/RHP, Living Word Lutheran, 2019
6-foot-4, 210-pound left-handed hitting two-way player, advanced frame, physical build. Left-handed power bat, tall setup, short lifted stride, loads hands, on time. Flat path, hard contact in BP, showed barrel awareness, advanced bat speed and strength. 95 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed actions around the bag, above average arm at the position, short high ¾ slot, 76 mph across. 7.98 runner in the 60. On the mound arm is short and firm, high ¾ slot, some effort. Fastball touched 80 mph, sat 77-79 mph, slight arm side run. 11/5 curveball, 58-62 mph.

5. Jack Krumbach, OF/SS, Madison Memorial, 2019
6-foot-1, 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder with an athletic frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and good balance. Short swing path with fluid rhythm and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Plus runner running the 60 at 6.84. Defensively in the outfield has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with a full crow hop and athletic actions. Throws showed carry throwing 85 mph from the outfield. Also took drills in the infield throwing 81 mph across the diamond.

6. Max Bruff, OF/3B, Indian Trail, 2019
5-foot-9, 180-pound right-handed hitting OF/3B with a strong frame. At the plate hits from a narrow, open setup. Leg lift stride back to even. Long, uphill swing path with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 97 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.00. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with a long, slow exchange. Threw 82 mph from the outfield. Also took drills in the infield throwing 76 mph across the infield.

7. Ben Siekierski, 1B, Mukwonago, 2019
6-foot-3, 205-pound first-baseman, strong build. Right-handed hitter, open stance, leg kick stride, average balance. Aggressive approach, bat strength present, pull side power approach, uphill path looks to lift. 96 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed feel around the bag, feet worked well, natural first base actions. Arm action is short, high ¾ slot, 74 mph across the diamond. 7.57 runner in the 60.

8. Brent Widder, INF, Sheboygan North, 2019
5-foot-11, 155-pound infielder, lanky frame, projects. Right-handed hitter, athletic setup, leg kick trigger. Loose hands, creates whip, level path, flashed extension. Line drive contact to the pull side, showed bat speed. 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively played with bounce on the infield, feet worked through the baseball athletically, hands played soft and played well on the move. Arm action is short, athletic, 80 mph across the diamond. 7.40 runner in the 60.

9. Graham Arndt, INF, Monona Grove, 2019
5-foot-10, 140-pound left-handed hitting infielder, wiry frame. Offensively hits from an open stance, tall setup, smooth loading action with short stride. Loose handsy swing, short level path, line drive contact. Spray barrel control type approach. 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short, high ¾ slot, flashed carry, 75 mph across. Hands played cleanly, showed feel and above average actions for age. 7.51 runner in the 60.

10. Kaden Lehman, INF/RHP, Portage, 2019
5-foot-11, 165-pound, two-way player. On the mound works from a tall and fall delivery with regular effort. Arm works quick from an over the top slot. Fastball sat 78-80 mph, straight four seam action. Curveball has 11/5 shape, decelerated arm action, 62-63 mph. Changeup thrown with near fastball arm action, 71-72 mph. Defensively arm worked similarly on the infield, flashed carry, 82 mph across. Longer actions, plays tall at times. 7.06 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, closed stance, leg kick trigger, short path, high two-handed finish. 80 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Top 2020 Infield Prospects

1. Zach Storbakken, SS, Sussex Hamilton, 2020
Athletic 5-foot-11, 185-pound middle infielder. Right-handed hitter, slight open stance, balanced and athletic, leg kick trigger is on time, hits in rhythm, good balance. Aggressive swing, front foot hitter, attacks the baseball, loose hands creates bat speed, 88 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.24 runner in the 60. Defensively played through the baseball, moves aggressively through release, hands work well, ability to cushion the baseball, clean quick exchange. Arm plays athletically, high ¾ slot, 80 mph across the diamond.

2. Taiten Manriquez, INF/RHP, Waunakee, 2020
5-foot-10, 135-pound two-way player, lean athletic frame. Right-handed hitter, open stance, lifted stride back to square, stays balanced, lower half works. Path is level, flashed extension, line drive contact, 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed advanced actions, covers ground and plays through the baseball, athletic defender with soft hands. Arm plays with carry, 76 mph, loose arm action, showed accuracy. 7.32 runner. On the mound arm worked quick, stays on line and works athletically. Long high ¾ slot. Fastball flashed run to arm side, showed feel, 79-80 mph, touched 81 mph. 11/5 curveball showed good spin and shape, thrown with arm speed at 63-64 mph. Changeup fades to arm side, 65-69 mph. Knucklecurve tumbles some 66-70 mph.

3. Max Wagner, INF/RHP, Green Bay Preble, 2020
5-foot-10, 155-pound two-way player, stronger build for his age. 7.14 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, open stance, tall setup, longer stride with leg lift, on time. Showed barrel control, hard contact to the middle of the field, line drive guy with confidence in the box. 95 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm showed carry, short loose ¾ slot. Exchange is clean, long at times, plays tall showed above average hands. On the mound arm works more over the top, quick arm. Fastball controlled the zone, 78-80 mph, touched 82 mph. Curveball played at 67-68 mph, 12/6 action. Changeup comes out of slightly lower slot, 69-71 mph, thrown with arm speed and showed feel.

Max Alba, RHP/1B, Franklin, 2018
6-foot-5, 190-pound, lanky left-handed hitting RHP/1B with a projectable, athletic frame. High level athlete, averaged 20/10 in basketball and as a quarterback lead his team to a runner up finish in state. Emerged from the event as one of the state’s biggest winners. Currently ranked No. 3 in the Wisconsin Class of 2018 and No. 49 in the PBR Overall Ranks. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short draw out of the glove and quick arm action. Drop and drive delivery, slow paced working in line with home plate. Square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball is straight at 89-90, topping out at 93 mph for strikes. Curveball has made great strides since the Future Games. Works 77-78 mph with 11-5 shape and late, sharp breaking action for strikes. Showed feel for his changeup with fastball arm speed at 79-83 mph for strikes. At the plate hits from a couched setup with a short stop and short uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.99. Defensively has athletic actions at first base. Threw 85 mph across the infield.

Mitchell Alba, INF/RHP, Franklin, 2020
6-foot-1, 165-pound two-way player, lean projectable frame. Works directionally and upright on the mound, uses slide step in stretch. Arm action is clean, high ¾ slot. Fastball has slight sinking action, topped at 78 mph, sat 74-76 mph. Curveball ranged 67-70 mph, 11/5 action. Changeup ranged 67-70 mph. Arm played at 78 mph across the diamond, high ¾ slot. 7.36 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short lifted stride. Hands were loose, path works uphill, 81 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Zachary Albrent, RHP/OF/2B, Mount Horeb, 2019
5-foot-6, 125-pound right-handed hitting RHP/OF/2B. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action and draw on the backside. Drop and drive delivery, slide step from the stretch. Works in line with home plate with a square landing. Fastball sat 71-73 mph for strikes. Curveball has 11-5 shape with gradual action at 56-58 mph. Changeup sat 60-63 mph. At the plate hits from a tall, slightly open setup. Short, level swing path, middle of the field approach. 72 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.55. Defensively in the outfield has a long arm action from a high 3.4 slot. Accurate throws with slower actions. Threw 73 mph from the outfield. Took drills in the infield and threw 73 mph across.

Payton Baldauf, INF, Cambridge, 2019
6-foot-1, 170-pound infielder, average lean frame. Right-handed hitter, open setup, leg kick stride, average balance. Path works uphill, opposite field contact, 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short, high ¾ slot, 69 mph across the diamond. Sets feet up to play through the baseball. 7.46 runner in the 60.

Hunter Bergholz, 1B/LHP, Marshall, 2018
6-foot-3, 260-pound left-handed hitting 1B/LHP. At the plate hits from a tall, slightly open setup. Short, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.51. Defensively has a short arm action from a ¾ arm slot. Threw 67 mph across the infield. On the mound works from a ¾ arm angle with a short arm angle. Austin Bestul, INF, Elkhorn, 2020
5-foot-5, 127-pound infielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, good balance. Path is level, showed looseness, hits in rhythm, 75 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long high ¾ slot, 75 mph arm across the diamond. Plays through the baseball, showed actions, with hands playing out front. 7.64 runner in the 60.

Caden Bronkhorst, RHP/INF, Waupun, 2019
6-foot-3, 188-pound two-way player, strong above average frame. On the mound showed some raw arm strength, two-piece action, separates down, over the top slot. Fastball is straight, 77-78 mph, touched 80 mph. Curveball is 12/6, 65-68 mph, gradual action. Changeup flashed deceleration, 58-59 mph. Defensively arm played similarly, short over the top slot, 83 mph across the infield. 7.51 runner in the 60. Right-handed hitter, short stride, minimal lower half. Shows bat strength, 86 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Nick Cairo, 1B/RHP, Kenosha Bradford, 2020
6-foot-1, 180-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, tall setup with slightly open stance, early leg kick trigger. Gets into lower half, hits off back side on uphill plane, 76 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short high ¾ slot, 63 mph across the diamond. Showed playable actions around the bag at first. 7.86 runner in the 60. On the mound fastball topped at 78 mph, sat 74-75 mph. Knuckleball at 66-67 mph. Changeup showed feel of the zone, 69-72 mph.

Cameran Crawford, RHP/3B, Southwest, 2018
6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed hitting RHP/3B with an athletic frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a short leg lift. Square landing working in line with home plate. Fastball sat 76-78 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape, flashed sharp breaking action at 62-65 mph. Changeup sat 66-69 mph. At the plate hits from a tall, open setup. Drop load with a short leg lift stride. Uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.72. Defensively threw 78 mph across the infield.

Tanner Cole, SS/OF, Marinette, 2018

5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitting SS/OF. At the plate hits from a balanced setup, short leg lift stride with average balance. Line drive hitter with fluid rhythm and an uphill swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.40. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws across the diamond with a clean exchange. Threw 76 mph across the infield. Took drills in the outfield, throwing 81 mph.

Johnny Colombo, INF, Lane Tech (IL), 2019
6-foot-2, 155-pound infielder, slender build. Right-handed hitter, open stance, lifted stride, average balance. Flashed line drive contact in BP, level path, 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played loose and whippy on the infield, ¾ slot, carried, 82 mph across. Showed clean actions, feet worked through the baseball, showed good body control on run through. 7.36 runner in the 60.

Jerick Czarneski, LHP/1B, Denmark, 2019
5-foot-9, 185-pound two-way player. Left-handed hitter, balanced setup, reverse load stride. Loose hands, flat path through the zone, showed feel for the barrel and hard contact in BP. Fast bat on level path, line drive contact, 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played short and loose 78 mph across the diamond. 7.50 runner in the 60. On the mound arm played from a ¾ slot. Fastball sat 73-74 mph, slight sinking action. Feel for breaking ball, sweeping action, 66-69 mph, drops for strikes. Changeup stays down, sinks, 66-68 mph.

Jacob Danielsen, 2B/RHP, Stevens Point, 2018
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2B/RHP. At the plate hits from a wide base with a toe tap stride. Line drive hitter with a long, level swing path. 78 mph exit velocity form a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.65. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fields the ball deep with a long exchange. Threw 74 mph across the infield. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a square landing. Fastball sat 73-74 topping out at 76 mph. Curveball has 10-4 shape at 58-63 mph with loose rotation. Changeup has cutting action at 65-69 mph for strikes.

Josh Endicott, INF, LaFollette, 2019
5-foot-11, 185-pound left-handed hitting corner infielder, thick strong build. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride. Loose hands, creates bat speed, longer uphill path, some pull side. 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively profiles at third base, showed some actions through the baseball. Short over the top arm action, accurate to target, 76 mph. 7.53 runner in the 60.

Charlie Fisher, INF, Waunakee, 2020
5-foot-4, 115-pound infielder. Defensively showed above average actions, steady defender, exchange plays efficiently, clean and athletic through the baseball, showed body control. Arm plays short from a ¾ slot, 65 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, loads back into leg kick trigger, average balance. Path is level, hands works, 74 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.88 runner in the 60.

Noah Gillingham, RHP/INF, Stanley-Boyd, 2019
6-foot, 185-pound two-way player. On the mound showed arm strength for age, long firm arm action, over the top slot. Fastball played 76-78 mph. Curevball has 11/5 shape, flashed depth, 61-64 mph. Knuckleball at 60-66 mph. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance with leg kick trigger. Aggressive swing, long path, showed some bat strength, 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively fields with two hands, plays through some. 7.57 runner in the 60. Arm played at 78 mph across the diamond.

Trey Gordon, C/INF, Barneveld, 2019
5-foot-7, 145-pound catcher/infielder. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride, drops hands into load. Pull side approach, slight uphill path. 74 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed ability to play on move on the infield, solid defender, occasionally gets it deep. Pop times ranged 2.22-2.30, feet worked out of the chute. Arm plays at 70 mph out of the crouch, 69 mph across the diamond. 7.86 runner in the 60.

Ryan Green, RHP/SS, Notre Dame, 2018
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed hitting RHP/SS. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with some effort. Fastball sat 73-74 mph for strikes. Curveball has 11-5 shape with gradual action at 63-64 mph. Changeup sat 67-68 mph. At the plate hits from a wide base with a deep load and toe tap stride. 74 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.79. Defensively threw 75 mph across the infield.

Hunter Gustafson, 3B, Webster, 2018
5-foot-11, 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. Offensively hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and good balance. Short, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.73. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Threw 76 mph across the infield.

Quinn Henwood, INF/RHP, Appleton North, 2019
6-foot-1, 215-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, open stance, short stride. Solid approach, showed bat strength, on time, flashes pop to pull side. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm is long, high ¾ slot, 72 mph across the infield. 7.55 runner in the 60. On the mound arm action draws long, short over the top slot. Fastball is straight, 73-75 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape, 67-68 mph. Straight changeup, 71-73 mph.

Reece Homan, RHP/INF, Waupun, 2019
6-foot-4, 185-pound two-way player, lanky frame projects some. Profiles best on the mound, works directional, step behind rocker step, lands square, in line, athletic finish. Arm action is loose,showed quickness, some length, high ¾ slot. Fastball is straight, 78-81 mph, topped out at 83 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, short break, projects, 69-72 mph, kept down.
