Today we continue our event analysis of the Madison Preseason ID Showcase with the top Outfield Prospects. Below we ranked the top 15 outfielders from the event complete with scouting reports.  

Top Prospects

1. Jack Krumbach, OF/SS, Madison Memorial, 2019 
6-foot-1, 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder with an athletic frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and good balance. Short swing path with fluid rhythm and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Plus runner running the 60 at 6.84. Defensively in the outfield has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with a full crow hop and athletic actions. Throws showed carry throwing 85 mph from the outfield. Also took drills in the infield throwing 81 mph across the diamond.

2. Nathan Stevens, C/OF, Waunakee, 2019
Arkansas commit. 5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitting catcher, loose lean frame with athleticism. Premium left-handed bat, hits from an open stance, leg kick trigger, active hand load. Hands are loose, violent aggressive swing, barrel control. Explosive bat speed, short path with extension, athletic hitter. 97 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed quick catch and throw actions, gets out of the chute well with big arm that carries at 80 mph out of the crouch. Pop times ranged 1.92-2.00. Showed a big arm from the outfield as well, 90 mph. 7.17 runner in the 60.

3. Mitchell Seager, OF, Beloit Turner, 2018 
6-foot, 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. At the plate hits from an open setup, loads hands to backside, even stride. Gap to gap hitter with a short swing path and fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.91. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Threw 79 mph from the outfield.

4. Jack Haufle, C/OF, Oregon, 2019
Highly athletic frame, wide shoulders, narrow waist, 6-foot, 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher/outfielder. Offensively hits from an open stance, loads hands back, leg lift stride, slight dive. Loose bat speed, repeats swing, level path occasionally uphill, pull side tendency with pop. 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm carried, some effort, over the top slot, 80 mph out of the crouch, 90 mph from the outfield. Pop times ranged 2.15-2.25, tendency to get long strided and uphill out of the chute, athletic catcher, flexible setup, quiet receiver. 7.15 runner in the 60.

5. Alex Oakley, RHP/OF, Sun Prairie, 2018 
6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed hitting RHP/OF with a strong frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a closed landing. Fastball shows slight running action at 80-81 topping out at 83 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with gradual action at 67-70 mph. Changeup has running action at 75-77 mph. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short, leg lift stride. Long, level swing path, showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.62. Defensively has a long arm action. Long exchange, throws showed carry throwing 85 mph from the outfield.

6. Josh Sobczak, RHP/OF, South Milwaukee, 2018 
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitting RHP/OF with a strong, athletic frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with some effort. Fastball sat 80-81 topping out at 83 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 74-75 mph. Changeup has running action at 76-78 mph. Defensively showed off big arm strength from the outfield throwing an event best 92 mph. Plays thru the ball with fluid footwork, long exchange with effort upon release. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short leg lift stride. Pull hitter with an uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 90 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.27.

7. Alex Ryan, OF, Lakeside Lutheran, 2020 
5-foot-8, 145-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a strong frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a quick leg kick stride and good balance. Fluid rhythm with an uphill swing path and fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.94. Defensively has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Athletic footwork, plays thru the ball. Throws showed carry at 82 mph from the outfield.

8. Zachary Lutz, LHP/OF/1B, Hartford, 2018 
6-foot, 175-pound left-handed hitting utility player. On the mound works form a high ¾ arm angle with a short arm action and wrap on the backside. Tall and fall, slow paced delivery with a square landing and some rhythm. Fastball was straight at 79-80 topping out at 81 mph for strikes. Curveball has 1-7 shape at 64-67 mph. Showed feel for his changeup at 74-76 mph for strikes. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a smooth load. Gap to gap hitter with along swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.69. Defensively threw 82 mph from the outfield and 76 mph across the infield.

9. Scott Savage, OF, Hartford Union, 2019 
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. At the plate hits from a narrow, open setup. Bar and wrap load with a leg kick stride. Steep uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 92 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.24. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Plays thru the ball with a long exchange. Threw 83 mph from the outfield.

10. Carter Robinson, OF/RHP/2B, Appleton North, 2019 
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting utility player. At the plate hits from a balanced, closed setup. Arm bar load with a leg kick stride. Short, level swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.03. Defensively in the outfield has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Athletic actions, online throws at 84 mph. Also took drills in the infield, threw 80 mph across the diamond. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery working in line with home plate. Fastball was straight at 79-81 topping out at 82 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape at 66-68 mph. Changeup sat 67-68 mph for strikes. Also threw a slider with short breaking action at 70-72 mph.

11. Adam Zeratsky, SS/OF/RHP, Appleton North, 2018 
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitting utility player with an athletic frame. Offensively hits from a tall, slightly open setup with a short stride. Loose hands with an uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 91 mph exit velocity from a tee. 6.89 runner in the 60. Defensively played the infield and outfield, projects for the outfield, plays thru the ball, threw 83 mph from the outfield. Threw 84 mph across the infield.  On the mound works from an over the top slot with a short, loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery. Fastball sat 79, topping out at 81 mph. Curveball sat 65-68 mph. Changeup sat 70-72 mph.

12. Tyler Call Verlanic, OF/RHP, Bay Port, 2020 
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting OF/RHP with a lanky frame. Offensively hits from a tall, open setup with a leg kick stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with an uphill swing path and fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 93 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.14. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Accurate throws with carry throwing 82 mph from the outfield. Athletic actions with soft hands. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery with a short stride. Square landing working in line with home plate. Fastball sat 77-79 topping out at 81 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with gradual action at 60-63 mph. Changeup has cutting action at 67-69 mph.

13. Jacob Tomassetti, OF, Appleton North, 2018 
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a strong frame. At the plate hits from a wide base, loads to back side with a toe tap stride. Gap to gap hitter with an uphill swing path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 6.91. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ slot with a long transfer. Threw 82 mph from the outfield. 

14. Jacob Schellpfeffer, LHP/OF, Mayville, 2018
5-foot-11, 180-pound left-handed hitting LHP/OF with a strong frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall delivery, works in line with home plate. Smooth rhythm, falls towards third after release. Fastball has late life through the zone at 83-84 mph. Slider has 1-7 shape at 66-68 mph for strikes.
