PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week: INF Caleb Guden

By Andy Sroka

The WIAA season is in full swing, now in the middle of Week 4 action. At the end of this past weekend and at the start of this week, we’ve been accepting Player of the Week submissions from coaches in the state containing their nominations for the Week 3 POTW honors.

We believe you’d have a hard time finding a hotter in the state through the first month of the season than Medford Area’s INF/RHP Caleb Guden (2022; uncommitted). The Raiders are 14-2 overall this spring, in the midst of a 10-game win streak, and Guden’s been in the center of the stretch that’s hoisted this program onto the state’s Power 25 rankings.

While his Week 3 performance really sticks out, he’s been swinging the bat at this level nearly all spring, so earning this POTW honor was only a matter of time. In Week 3, Guden was 14-for-18 at the plate with seven doubles, two triples, and a home run that generated 13 RBIs, all from the lead-off spot in the daily lineup. Naturally, his aptitude for finding the open field also helped him touch home plate 12 times last week, and he was a single short of the cycle in Saturday’s win at East Troy.

As if that weren’t enough, Guden has also looked sharp from the mound, and his four innings pitched on Friday against Tomahawk earned him the win, and he K’d four over that span with just one earned run allowed – he actually drove in more runs (2) than the earned ones he allowed in Saturday’s contest.

Here’s a report on Guden from an event this past March:

Caleb Guden SS / RHP / Medford, WI / 2022

From Madison I.D. Quick Hits (3/17): “… is an athletic switch-hitter who showed well from both sides of the plate. It’s a gap-to-gap approach that he replicates on both sides of the dish, staying on top of the baseball to create line-drive contact to the center of the diamond. He carries some aggressive athleticism in the outfield as well with an above-average arm at 86 mph. Guden is ultra-aggressive to the baseball with sure hands and a clean release.”

(3/14/21)

For his efforts, Guden has been named the PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week, for the week of Monday, May 10 through Sunday, May 16. We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within our Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
