Preseason Preview: Luxemburg-Casco

The Wisconsin high school season kicks off on March 29, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on March 21, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

X-FACTOR
Jake Thyes has been pitching on varsity since his freshman year and will have to lead the young staff this year as a junior. Thyes is also counted upon in the lineup as one of the top returning bats, hitting .385 last year at shortstop.

STAT RAT
8: That's the number of starters the Spartans will return to the field in 2016. Coach Bray had six sophomores and one freshman starting last year, and now all a year older with good experience under their belt, should help the team.

OUTLOOK
The Spartans are changing conferences in 2016, moving out of the Bay Conference where they finished 5th in 2015 to the North Eastern Conference which is full of new blood. Coach Bray will rely on the experienced youth on his squad, made mostly of juniors and sophomores leading the way. Pitching will be the question mark, as not much returns to the bump for the Spartans besides right-handed Thyes. Along with Thyes the lineup returns a ton, including second-team all-conference selection Jordan Jorgensen in the Bay Conference last year.
