Southern Wisconsin Open: Pitching Analysis

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

Finishing up our analysis of the Southern Wisconsin Open, we conclude with the top pitching prospects. RHP Alec Marsh (Reagan College Prep, 2016) clearly stood out as the top pitching prospect in attendance. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder filled up the strike zone with an easy 87 mph fastball, touching 88 mph. Marsh’s changeup looks to be his most advanced secondary pitch and showed the arm speed for a quality breaking ball.

Just outside the top five were two 2017 prospects with a good upside. Jack Mahoney is a southpaw who stands 6-foot-4, 160-pounds and has plenty of room to grow into his frame. Mahoney showed good downhill action at 74-75 mph. Alec Esenther also showed a quick arm with deceptive delivery and feel for a 12/6 breaking ball.

Here’s a look at all the top pitching prospects.
