On Oct. 19, the PBR Wisconsin team hosted its annual fall showcase, the Southern Wisconsin Open, at STiKS Academy where 60 high school-level prospects participated in the final Wisconsin showcase of 2019.

After detailing the day’s highlights in yesterday’s Quick Hits post, we’re onto a more data-driven look at the showcase, inside our Statistical Analysis below. We measured the performance of each prospect in various categories, and we have the leaderboards at the ready.

Stay tuned in the next week or so when videos from the showcase are uploaded and inserted into profiles. In a few week’s time, we’ll have scouting reports on all 60 prospects who attended Sunday’s event. For now, check out the top statistical performers from the last showcase of the year.

MAX FASTBALL VELOCITY

Bay Port junior righty Carl Cano made a leap in velocity in the late summer and fall, and we got to see it for ourselves in Waukesha on Sunday, where he recorded an event-high 88 mph fastball. Catholic Memorial is loaded with arms ahead of the 2020 season, and RHP Kellan Short figures to be in the mix in some shape, and he, too, made a velo jump since our last look in the middle of the summer, he sat 83-85 mph over the weekend. Southpaw Reece Piontek, from Denmark, hurled 84-85 mph fastballs at the end of his ‘pen and there’s bound to be more in the tank down the road, based on his projection.

TOP 60-YARD DASH

There were a pair of runners who just dipped beneath the 7.00 threshold in the 60-yard dash: INF Adam Bretsch (Marquette University, 2021) and OF Xavier Schreiber (McFarland, 2020), who ran a 6.86 and a 6.98, respectively. Both showed off bat strength in BP but no one was able to match the physicality that Schreiber swung the bat with, as you’ll soon find out.

6 Brian Johnston WI Fall Creek 2020 OF 7.17

TOP EXIT VELOCITY

Schreiber is a physical 6-foot-2 with athleticism and twitch, which helps him produce real bat speed and bat strength from the left-handed batter’s box. His 95 mph exit velocity from the tee topped this leaderboard and has made him a push onto the prospect radar headed into the final offseason of his prep career. Junior Colin Dailey (Cedarburg) had a solid all-around day and tied for second with a 91 mph mark at the exit velo station with sophomore Emiliano Ramos (Arrowhead), who is a high-follow in the state’s 2022 class himself.

Rank Name State School Class Pos Exit Velo

^ Theo Zeidler WI Bay Port 2022 RHP 88

TOP INFIELD VELOCITY

Dailey made his presence felt again elsewhere on Sunday, taking groundballs during infield evaluations, where his big arm produced an event-high 85 mph throws across the turf. He’s bigger and stronger than we’ve seen in our previous looks, and it’s helped elevate his game across the board. No one made infield reps look easier than Benjamin Loyd (Tremper, 2021), who recently committed to Notre Dame, and he tied sophomore Theo Zeidler (Bay Port) for the second spot on this leaderboard. Zeidler broke out at this event, too, as a 6-foot righty with upside.

TOP OUTFIELD VELOCITY

From De Pere, two-way right/right talent Bailey Prevost (2021) showed off his arm strength, tying for the top of the leaderboard with a sophomore, Eli Michaelis (Wauwatosa East). Prevost was also up to 83 mph on the mound with a loose and quick arm. As for Michaelis, he’s an athlete with a lean build who touched 82 mph from the mound himself.

TOP CATCHER VELOCITY

Three backstops tied for the top spot in this category: the two juniors Michael Maloney (Pulaski) and Charlie Bogue (Mount Horeb), as well as Heath Venne, a sophomore from Muskego. Bogue is a solid defender with all of the actions to stick behind the plate, while Venne is building a serious reputation with his loud, physical bat – but has actions behind the dish, too.

3 Cody Pappadakis WI Wilmot Union 2023 C 68
4 Charlie Carr WI Marquette University 2021 C 64

TOP POP TIMES

Bogue’s catch-and-throw skills helped him average the lowest pop times from Sunday, with an event-best 2.02. Venne kept it close with a 2.11 mark, which has helped him mold an overall profile that has him pushing for a spot the 2022 board, when we publish our next update.
