Stock Report: 2014 RHP Ryan Wesely

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin

Today’s Stock Report highlights Ryan Wesely, a right handed pitcher from Holmen HS. Wesely was a big part of the Viking success in 2012. After going 22-3 on the season and winning the Mississippi Valley Conference by two full games, Wesely was honored with 2nd team all-conference recognition. Wesley not only contributed on the mound, going 2-0 with a 1.05 ERA as a sophomore, but he also hit .351 on the year to bolster the Viking lineup.

Wesely has an athletic build standing 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. On the mound, his delivery isRyan Wesely athletic using a tall and fall approach. He shows rhythm, direction and an athletic finish. Wesely’s arm works quick, throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. His fastball has slight sink to it and is thrown for strikes. He currently sits at 83-84 mph while he touched 85 mph on occasion. His curveball had a slurve feel to it working on an 11/5 plane. It had sharp action and was thrown aggressively with fastball arm speed. He also showed the ability to throw it for strikes at 67-70 mph. Wesely’s changeup (76-78 mph) has excellent action as well. Showing well above average feel with sinking action, Wesely looks to have the repertoire of a three pitch pitcher with feel.

Wesely is one of the more promising 2014 pitchers in the state. His quick arm action and feel for multiple pitches make him a desirable asset at the next level. As we continue to keep tabs on the No. 7 prospect in the state it will be interesting to see how far he can take the Holmen Vikings in 2013.
