Stock Report: 2014 RHP Zack Henderson

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin

Today’s Stock Report is on the right arm of Greendale junior Zack Henderson. Henderson is the top ranked pitcher in the Class of 2014 and the No. 4 prospect in the state. Last season Henderson went 3-3 on the mound with a 4.04 ERA as a sophomore, while being awarded 1st Team All-Conference. Henderson will be expected to produce more wins this year for the Panthers as they return almost all of their pitching from a year ago.

Henderson has an athletic build at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds and the capabilities to be a two way player. He shows advanced arm strength on the mound. His delivery has a tall and fall approach showing some effort and up tempo. His arm works from a high ¾ arm slot with a quick action.

Henderson’s fastball is mostly straight showing occasional run. It sat consistently at 88 mph. His changeup has near fastball arm action with heavy sink and good depth. It shows the ability to be a high level swing and miss pitch. He shows feel for his change at 74-76 mph. His curveball has 11/5 shape at 72-73 mph, not quite at the level of his change up but still shows a high potential.

Henderson also shows a presence at the plate. Offensively, he hits from a balance setup using a slightly wider stance. He makes hard contact and is an aggressive swinger. He shows barrel awareness and excellent whip through the zone. His bat speed is advanced, registering 93 mph exit velocity from the tee. He projects as an aggressive hitter with power potential.

Henderson has a dynamic arm that should project well at the next level. We’ll see how far he can take his Greendale Panthers this season.
