We continue the the Top Ten Stories of 2016 with:
#7 - Ty Weber Leads Menomonee Falls To Summer State Title

Menomonee Falls capped off an impressive two year run with its second consecutive WIAA Summer State Title. Over the past two years they combined for a 53-17 record and were led by Player of the Year Ty Weber. Weber was named player of the year while going back and forth from Champaign, IL, where he was taking classes at the University of Illinois, enrolling early this past summer. He had an eye opening spring in the Hitters Spring League and ended up being drafted in the 34th round by the Cincinnati Reds in June.

Menomonee Falls Wins Back To Back Summer State Titles

Menomonee Falls won its second consecutive WIAA summer baseball state championship with a 2-0 victory over Marquette University High School in the state final on Friday.

Ty Weber did everything for the Indians. He produced the game’s only runs offensively and was dominant on the mound to power his team to another state title.

Both Weber and his pitching counterpart Jim Jarecki pitched well early in the game. Both teams went three up, three down in the first. They both got a lone runner on in the second but failed to do anything with it.

In the third, the Indians provided the only substantial offense of the contest. Ryan Piontek and Zach Kornburger hit back-to-back singles and Ryan Spalding drew a walk to load the bases for Weber, who went 4-for-4 in the semifinals this morning. He delivered a big two RBI single to left field to give his team a 2-0 lead.

Neither team threatened again until the fifth, when the Indians nearly added some insurance runs. Spalding and Weber hit back-to-back singles and Matt Emmer drew a walk later in the inning to load the bases for Falls again. However, Marquette reliever Matt Schwartz got a groundout to escape the trouble unscathed.

The Hilltoppers got a runner in scoring position in the sixth after Jack Dwyer hit a single and stole second, but his teammates were unable to bring him around to score.

Weber slammed the door on Marquette in the final inning to ensure the Indians repeated as state champions.

It certainly was a day to remember for the entire Menomonee Falls team, but especially so for Weber. He tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and tallied two hits at the plate, including the big one in the third inning. He finished 6-for-8 at the state tournament with five RBIs.

Jarecki was the losing pitcher despite throwing well for the Hilltoppers. He allowed just two runs in 4.1 innings with three strikeouts.

Nick Gile and Cole Mir both had two hits for the Indians. Dwyer, Peter Ahn, Joe Gilpin and Jeromy Schultz were the only Marquette players to manage hits.

This is the second state baseball title in Menomonee Falls history. The Indians ended the season with a 25-10 record. Marquette finished 27-7 and as state runners-up.
