Ty Weber adds his name to Wisconsin's list of 2016 commitments

Another young gun made his college commitment over the weekend and this time it was Menomonee Falls sophomore RHP Ty Weber who committed to Illinois. I’m sure we are sounding like a broken record by now with how strong this 2016 class is in Wisconsin, but it’s worth mentioning every time one of these 2016 graduates makes a big commitment. Now with five Division 1 committed sophomores in the state it’s obvious Wisconsin is starting to put themselves in the big picture of college recruiting. Once thought of as a honey hole for few Division 1 programs to pick off an under the radar prospect, Wisconsin’s finest are now getting the recognition they deserve and are reaping the benefits on a broader landscape.Ty Weber

Weber is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound, right handed pitcher with a large frame, wide shoulders and long legs that college recruiters dream of. His tall and fall delivery works with little effort and gets downhill well. We’ve seen Weber’s fastball consistently work in the 82-83 mph range with heavy feel and late action.

As a three sport athlete it’s clear that Weber is highly athletic and his arm stays fresh throughout the year. Focusing on just baseball at the college level could skyrocket Weber to a whole new level.

Although making an early decision, the recruiting process for Weber was just as difficult.

“I did not have any expectations, I was just hoping to get noticed. Once the process started it became time consuming to decide which schools to visit,” said Weber.

Along with Illinois, Weber also had Missouri and Iowa on his short list.

He said,

“I was hoping to find a school with a baseball staff that really cared about me as a student/athlete.”

Weber found just that in Illinois. After seeing the big right hander at various showcases leading into his sophomore year, Weber’s relationship with Illinois took off and after visiting the campus he said,

“I love the coaching staff at Illinois. I feel I already have a good relationship with the pitching coach, which is key because I will be spending much of my time with him.”

Illinois has been making some serious noise in the Badger state lately, getting four verbal commitments from Wisconsin prep stars within the last eight months and all four are top 10 prospects in their respective class. Joining Weber with commitments to the Illini are 2015 grads RHP Brendan Meisner (West De Pere) OF Doran Turchin (Oak Creek) and 2016 grad Cyrillo Watson (South Milwaukee).
