Unsigned Senior Spotlight: OF Bryce Plate

Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

Bryce Plate is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound left-handed hitting outfielder from Kaukauna HS. Plate is a physical hitter who shows some pop to his pull side and an above average runner. Plate’s athleticism should play well in the outfield and have the ability to play all three outfield spots. Currently ranked No. 43 in the state, Plate looks to be one of the more coveted outfield prospects still on the market. Here’s a look inside Plate’s current recruiting process.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Plate: I have been in contact with Illinois State, Bradley, Eastern Illinois, Milwaukee, UW Whitewater and McHenry County CC.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Plate: I have visited Whitewater a couple months ago. I will be touring Illinois State and McHenry in the near future.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Pate: My intended major is criminal justice. I am looking for a school that has those programs. Also I am looking for a school where I can develop as a player and have an opportunity to play at the next level.

PBR: How did you do this past spring? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Plate: I finished at the top of the team in batting average. I am looking to help Kaukauna finish in the top half of the conference and make a run in the playoffs this year.

PBR: Preview your upcoming high school season for us. How do you feel you will be? Returning players? Starters? Newcomers?

Plate: I feel that Kaukauna will do very well in the upcoming season. We have many returning players along with some newcomers that will step in and help out a lot. I am excited to work with Coach Kevin Meyer again this year. Also I am excited to play with Dustin Landers who is committed to St. Could State.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? How did you do in the summer? Do you play fall ball as well?

Plate: I play for the Wisconsin Panthers out of Appleton for summer and fall ball. I played well throughout both seasons. In the summer I led the 18U team in batting average and several other offensive categories.  We have a great team coming back this year and I'm looking forward to playing for Coach Bruce Erickson (18U coach) once again.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Plate: I also played football in the fall for Kaukauna and played defensive back.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Plate: I got a 17 on the ACT and I have a 3.1 GPA.
