J.T. Athy has been on the PBR radar for a while now and the left handed hitting shortstop from Cudahy HS has shown vast improvements in his game. Athy was recently ranked the top position player at the Unsigned Senior Showcase in Appleton, WI.
He’s an athletically built, 5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively, Athy hits from an open stance with a smooth loading action and short stride; using his lower half well and maintaining strong balance throughout. His bat path is short using quick hands and is a line drive gap to gap hitter with occasional opposite field tendencies. He’s athletic in the box with loose hands and bat speed present, projecting as a top of the lineup hitter. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Defensively Athy showed advanced actions on the infield; soft hands, fluid footwork, quick clean exchange and plays through the baseball well. His arm action is athletic and showed excellent body control when on the move. Short loose arm action from a high ¾ slot, 76 mph across the diamond. Athy also a 7.25 in the 60.
