Updated Class of 2013 Rankings

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Wisconsin

As we get closer to the 2013 MLB amateur draft and the WIAA playoffs are now underway, we have revisited the Class of 2013 rankings in Wisconsin.

The biggest shakeup is Appleton West’s Dan Jansen who has now moved to the No. 2 spot. Although the draft buzz around high school players in Wisconsin has been pretty quiet this year, Jansen’s physical nature and power potential from behind the plate make him an intriguing asset to scouts.

Josh Serio (Whitnall HS) moved up into the No. 7 spot after showing a consistent 86-88 mph fastball all spring while touching 90 mph on several occasions. Serio’s arm strength and durability have been his best tools.

Other risers include Oak Creek’s Hayden Krimmer (No. 15), St. Catherine’s AJ Kaprelian (No. 23) and Ty Gentz from Franklin (No. 27).

Krimmer has also flashed a 90 mph fastball this spring as well as a strong presence at the plate. AJ Kaprelian has shown a quick release with excellent arm strength from behind the plate, along with a steady bat. Ty Gentz has shown a loose arm action with a low 80’s fastball and a high level of pitchability.
