Wisconsin Class of 2015 Rankings Updated

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

The Class of 2015 was the first class the Prep Baseball Report covered in Wisconsin from start to finish. The PBR started in Wisconsin when these guys were just starting their sophomore years and we got the opportunity to see this class grow and develop through their high school careers. Now as seniors, there are already 26 Division I commitments, to put that in perspective, the 2013 and 2014 classes combined for a total of 32 Division I commitments.

Our presence in Wisconsin has clearly raised the bar and have made college programs take notice of a state that has otherwise gone overlooked.

After our recent Unsigned Senior Showcases, we take a look at our Class of 2015 Rankings. The last update came back in August and this one shuffles several players within the top 50.

RHP Ty Ramirez (Greendale) has taken over the No. 2 spot as he has had a breakout summer which continued into the early fall. Ramirez boasts an 88-90 mph fastball with reports up to 92 mph.

Here's a look at the Top 10.

Rank Name State School Class Pos Commitment
1 Pete Schuler WI Kenosha St. Joseph 2015 C Kent State
2 Ty Ramirez WI Greendale 2015 RHP Creighton
3 Bryant Jordan WI Home School 2015 RHP Missouri
4 Alex Hintze WI Oshkosh North 2015 LHP Connecticut
5 Owen Miller WI Ozaukee 2015 SS Illinois State
6 Doran Turchin WI Oak Creek 2015 OF Illinois
7 Connor Wollersheim WI Appleton North 2015 LHP Kent State
8 Brendan Meissner WI West De Pere 2015 RHP Illinois
9 Cade Bunnell WI Stoughton 2015 SS Kansas State
10 Simon Rosenblum-Larson WI Madison West 2015 RHP Harvard

RHP Connor Hock (Bay Port) continues to rise as his projectable athleticism on the mound is garnering plenty of attention.

OF Chase Scharnek (Waukesha West) made the biggest jump of over 60 spots in this update. The 6-foot-3 left handed hitting outfielder, who is also a standout on the football field, ran a blazing 60 time at 6.68 and threw it 92 mph from the outfield at the Illinois Unsigned Senior Showcase. Scharnek is a raw athlete that has a boat load of upside while hitting from the left side.

J.T. Athy (Cudahy) and Nikola Vasic (New Berlin Eisenhower) also saw their stock rise as two of the top middle infielders from the Unsigned Senior Showcase. Athy’s left handed stick stood out while Vasic’s 6.75 was the best 60 time of the day.

Nine new prospects made the cut this time with RHP Jacob Watzka (Green Bay East) leading the way. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound RHP sat 80-83 mph with reports of more in the tank. Joining Watzka in the latest 2015 rankings is Chad Herbst (McFarland), Dan Malak (Muskego), Andrew Pliner (Oregon), Kyle Brahm (Nicolet), Reggie Rappis (Cedarburg), Bradley Calkins (Sun Prairie), Justin Reed (Neenah) and Jacob Budnik (Lake Country Lutheran).
