Wisconsin Class of 2017 Rankings: Updated and Expanded

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Wisconsin/Illinois

The 2017 rankings are still in their infant stages but we’ve been seeing a lot out of some of the top 2017’s in the state and have expanded the list to the top 20 prospects in the state.

The 2017 Top Prospect Showcase shed a lot of light on the top players in the state and LHP Ben Dragani (Catholic Memorial) emerged as the clear cut No.1 prospect in the state. At 6-foot-4, 175-pound and one of the cleanest left handed arms we’ve seen from that age in a while, Dragani looks to have one of the brightest futures in the state.

SS Mitchell Buban (Tremper) came in at No. 4 and the highest newcomer to the rankings. Buban is the type of player that just gets it done. Not the flashiest actions on the infield but the most reliable and athletic defender in the state. Buban plays extremely well on the move and his arm plays well with accuracy when off balance.

On top of Buban, 10 new prospects were added to the rankings including OF Zach Campbell, RHP Evan Spry, RHP Christopher Zak, RHP Austin Braund, LHP Maxwell Van Boxel, 3B Patrick Sisk, RHP Hunter DeSmet, RHP Nicholas Cramer, 1B/RHP Griffin Doersching and C Kyle Antos.
