Wisconsin Draft Preview

By Steve Nielsen and Matt Huck

The 2016 Major League Draft takes place June 9-11. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

Wisconsin is not historically known as a baseball state, but 2016 may change the perception of the Badger State nationally. This senior class has been touted since they were freshman and could add a page to the history books. The last time Wisconsin produced two high school picks in the top 10 rounds was 1992. The last time it had two in the top five was 1970. SS Gavin Lux (Indian Trail HS, WI) and C Ben Rortvedt (Verona Area HS, WI) have both been followed closely this spring and could be the highest drafted pair in the state ever.

PBR Draft 100 Prospects

16. Gavin Lux, SS, Indian Trail HS, WI
Well known for his work defensively, Lux had to answer some questions with the bat this spring, after struggling last summer on the showcase circuit. Lux has made strides at the plate, smoothing out his swing and eliminating a hitch that caused timing issues and weak contact.
