Bryant & Stratton College Scout Day: Takeaways

On October 10th, PBR Wisconsin traveled to Wauwatosa, Wis., for the Bryant & Stratton Scout Day. The event featured over 30 players that allowed our staff to get an inside look ahead of their 2024 season.

We are diving deeper into the event today with these takeaways, where you'll learn more about a handful of the day's standouts, below.

POSITION PLAYERS

+ R-FR MIF Luis Serrano (Jefferson, 2022, WI) was a standout on Tuesday showcasing multiple tools across the diamond. The athletic middle-infielder started off the day by running one of the fastest 60s of the day recording a 6.58 run time. During his round of BP Serrano drove the baseball on a line to the pull side, with his hardest hit ball of the day coming off at 90.1 mph. On the infield Serrano is an athletic defender with range and soft hands with enough arm strength, topped at 89 mph, to stay on the left side of the infield.

+ FR MIF Jedvier Garcia (Milwaukee Riverside, 2023, WI) is another highly athletic middle-infield prospect that showed well from Tuesday’s scout day. To start the day Garcia ran the fastest recorded 60 of the day, registering a run time of 6.50. At the plate, Garcia took a consistent round of BP driving the baseball up the middle-of-the-field and he recorded a max exit velocity of 93.1 mph. During his defensive workout, Garcia proved to be an athletic moving middle infield prospect with a strong arm that was up to 85 mph across the diamond.

+ SOPH OF Tyler Clark (West Allis Hale, 2022, WI) is a follow prospect from Tuesday’s scout day. Standing at an athletic and lean 6-foot, 185-pounds, Clark’s athleticism played in different ways on the field. Starting with the 60 where Clark would also run one of the fastest recorded times of the day at 6.67 seconds. During BP the right-handed-hitter swings a loose and quick bat that flashed the ability to impact the baseball to all fields driving the farthest baseball of the day at 369 feet and recording a max exit velo of 95.3 mph.

+ FR C Sean Reilly (Dodgeville, 2023, WI) is a physical catching prospect that impressed at Tuesday’s scout day. The 5-foot-10, 200-pounder with strength throughout his frame, was responsible for some of the highest metrics of the day. Starting with BP, the right-handed-hitter had the second highest average exit velo of the day at 88.6 mph and recorded the hardest hit ball of the day at 96.6 mph. Behind the plate, Reilly is a reliable receiver with a strong arm that was up to 79 mph on his firmest bullet to second.

+ FR 1B Ashton Kampa (Muskego, WI, 2023) is a strong left/left first base prospect that took one of the top rounds of BP from Tuesday. During his round Kampa was consistently on the barrel, recording the highest average exit velo of the day at 89.8 mph with a max exit velo of 95.4 mph. Also, Kampa put up some high level Blast metrics, too, with an average bat speed at 75.3 mph and a max of 79.2 mph.

+ FR 3B Ryan Weed (East Troy, WI, 2023) is an imposing and athletic corner infielder, built at 6-foot-5, 225-pounds. Weed impressed at the plate where the right-handed hitter was able to consistently elevate the baseball doing most of his damage to his pull side and logged a max exit velo of 92.8 mph. Defensively at third base, Weed showed the actions to be a sure handed defender with a strong and accurate arm up to 87 mph from across the diamond.

PITCHERS

+ R-SOPH RHP Isaac Engelbrecht (Oak Creek, WI, 2021) is a strong 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-hander that put together a quality ‘pen during our time with Bryant & Stratton. Engelbrecht ran his fastball up to 85.8 mph, good for an event high. As for his offspeed pitches, his mid-70s slider featured over 16” of horizontal movement on average and was spun at 2,465 RPM on average. His spin traits carried over to his curveball, too, as it averaged over 2,500 RPM and played with sharp 11/5 break. He rounded out his four-pitch mix with a deceptive splitter in the upper-70s, which featured late depth with occasional arm-side run. 

+ At 6-foot-2, 205-pounds FR RHP Joe Marcin (Madison West, WI, 2023) is an upside arm for the Bryant & Stratton staff and certainly offered some intrigue on Tuesday. During his ‘pen, Marcin ran his fastball up to 84.5 mph, averaging over 10” of run and peaking at nearly a foot. Marcin’s curveball was thrown in the low-to-mid-70s and peaked at over 2,200 RPM, too, featuring over 14” of horizontal movement at its max. To finish his three-pitch mix, Marcin featured a mid-to-high-70s changeup that was thrown at arm speed and featured similar horizontal movement as his fastball. 

+ R-FR LHP Andrew Mumm (Brookfield Central, WI, 2022) is listed at an athletic and projectable 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-hander on the Bobcat staff. From a controlled delivery, Mumm’s running fastball reached highs of 84.5 mph while averaging 14” of horizontal movement, too. He also showed feel for both of his offspeed pitches, the first being a slider that topped at 71.8 mph and played with late horizontal break, roughly 11” on average. The second was a changeup in the mid-to-high-70s that he effectively killed spin on and featured big fading action (15.4” avg.).
