On September 22nd, the Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff hosted the Bryant & Stratton JC Scout Day at Wisconsin Brewing Company Stadium in Oconomowoc, WI. 36 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff.

Today, we will be looking at some of the top prospects at Bryant & Stratton that stood out to our staff within this Takeaways story.

POSITION PLAYERS

+ RS. So. INF Josh Diorio (Whitnall) looks to be a driving force in the Bobcats’ lineup after missing last season due to injury. Putting together one of the loudest rounds of batting practice, Diorio left the yard multiple times, achieving a peak exit velocity of 103.9 mph and an average exit velocity of 97.1 mph. With a strong and athletic 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame, Diorio looks to be a big piece of the Bobcats’ success this upcoming season.

+ So. C Elery Hardwick (Marquette) returns for the Bobcats following a freshman campaign in which he slashed .358/.433/.631 with ten home runs in 53 games played. During his round of batting practice, Hardwick showcased a strong, quick barrel and consistent hard contact, achieving a peak exit velocity of 100.5 mph and an average exit velocity of 95 mph.

+ So. C Calvin Hurtgen (Watertown) returns for the Bobcats following a freshman campaign in which he slashed .393/.495/.583 with 47 runs batted in. At the plate, Hurtgen achieved a peak pop time of 93.5 mph and showcased consistent line-drive tendencies to all fields. A standout defender, the athleticism stands out with soft hands and a strong arm to pair, up to 83 mph from the crouch and achieving a pop time range of 1.85-2.00 with accuracy. A 6.65 runner as well, Hurtgen’s tools makes him a must know juco prospect set to have another productive season.

+ Fr. OF Zach Plier (Grafton) looks to make an immediate impact for the Bobcats and possesses the tools to do so. Starting the day running a 6.68 60-yard, Plier went on to take an impressive round of batting practice in which he achieved a peak exit velocity of 102 mph and an average exit velocity of 90 mph. An athletic mover in the outfield as well, Plier achieved a peak outfield velocity of 86 mph to round off the tool set.

+ Fr. 1B Carter Schwingle (Franklin) came away a winner from the event, starting his day running a 6.81 60-yard, and following it up by taking the loudest round of batting practice on the day, achieving the highest exit velocity of the event at 105.3 mph and averaging 96.3 mph. With a whippy barrel and 73.1 mph average bat speed, Schwingle left the yard multiple times throughout the round and looks to make an immediate impact as a freshman.

+ So. CIF Macay Wagner (Slinger) returns for the Bobcats following a freshman campaign in which he slashed .333/.433/.490 with five home runs in 58 games played. Boasting a physical 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame with strength throughout, Wagner showcased a strong bat and line-drive tendencies, achieving a peak exit velocity of 95.2 mph and an average exit velocity of 90.8 mph. An athletic defender at the corners and achieving a peak infield velocity of 84 mph, Wagner looks to continue to be a top producer for the Bobcats this upcoming season. 

+ Fr. OF Eric Cotte (Brown Deer) looks to make an immediate impact as a freshman and has the toolset to do so. Starting the day by running a 6.65 60-yard, Cotte followed this up by producing a peak exit velocity of 94 mph in his round of batting practice, showcasing a smooth LH operation at the plate. An athletic mover in the outfield, Cotte achieved a peak outfield velocity of 89 mph to round off the toolset. Name to know going into his freshman season. 

Two-Ways

+ So. LHP/1B Seth Lingford (East Troy) stood out as a two-way prospect to know. A 6.90 runner, Lingford took a loud round of batting practice, achieving a peak exit velocity of 101.8 mph and an average exit velocity of 89.5 mph with a peak distance of 400’. On the mound, the fastball worked up to 89 mph, the curveball worked in the mid-70s and averaged 2,653 rpm with a low-80s changeup to round off the arsenal. Sophomore to know as he looks to impact the ball on both sides of the field for the Bobcats this season.

Pitchers

+ So. RHP William Baumhardt (Slinger) looks to pick up quality innings for the Bobcats this upcoming season after transferring in. Boasting a long-levered 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame, Baumhardt showcased a quality three-pitch mix, with the fastball working in the low-90s and averaging 18.1” of induced vertical break, the curveball working in the low-70s and averaging 2,219 RPM, and the cutter working in the low-to-mid-80s and averaging 2,299 RPM to round off the arsenal.

+ So. RHP Matthew Pokorny (Tremper) transfers in and provided a polished look on the mound. The fastball worked in the upper-80s and averaged 17.5” of induced vertical break, the slider worked in the upper-70s and averaged 2,509 RPM, the changeup worked in the low-80s and averaged 16.4” of horizontal movement with feel throughout, and the cutter worked in the low-80s with sharp bite averaging 2,275 RPM. With feel for each and strikes throughout, Pokorny looks to pick up meaningful innings this upcoming season.

+ So. LHP Tyler Loesche (Slinger) provided a strong look from the left side and looks to be an impact transfer arm for the Bobcats this upcoming season. A smooth operator on the mound, Loesche utilized a three-pitch mix with the fastball working in the mid-80s and topping out at 87.5 mph and averaging 15.4” of induced vertical break. To pair, the slider worked in the mid-70s and averaged 12.8” of horizontal movement, and the changeup worked in the mid-80s, averaging -14.4” of horizontal movement. All in all, Loesche possesses the makeup to provide quality innings on the mound for the Bobcats this upcoming season.

+ So. RHP Eliot Roethle (Watertown) returns for the Bobcats following a freshman campaign in which he struck out 56 batters in 41 innings of work. With a clean, whippy arm, the fastball worked at 89-90 mph and averaged 2,450 RPM, the slider worked in the low-80s and averaged 2,477 RPM, and the changeup worked at 79-82 mph and averaged 12.7” of horizontal movement. With a clean operation and a polished arsenal, Roethle looks to continue to tick up this upcoming season as a sophomore arm to know.
