La Crosse Summer ID: Takeaways

On Tuesday, August 25th, the Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff hosted the La Crosse Summer ID at Copeland Park in La Crosse, WI. Over 10 players participated in a pro-style workout, gathering unrivaled access to data through our state-of-the-art tech partners, as well as in-depth scouting analysis from our Prep Baseball Wisconsin staff.

Today, we will be providing our scouting takeaways on some of the event's top performers.
POSITION PLAYERS
Donny Baures, OF, Cotter Schools, 2027
Uncommitted, strong and proportional 5-foot-10, 182-pound frame with physicality throughout. Calm operation in the box working slightly open with a leg lift timing mechanism, Baures showcased a strong barrel and feel to lift the ball in the air and meet the ball out front, achieving a peak exit velocity of 97.3 mph and a peak batted distance of 352 feet.
Kameron Gruening, INF, Hudson, 2028
Some of the more intriguing tools at the event, Gruening started the day off running a 7.01 60-yard, followed up by an impressive round of batting practice, where he showcased a simple operation at the plate with a quick, whippy bat and hands that rotate tight to the body, allowing for a peak exit velocity of 95.5 mph and a peak batted distance of 351 feet with feel to pull the ball in the air. The athleticism plays in the infield as well with clean footwork, feel for the pocket, and arm strength up to 84 mph across the infield with carry. Name to know.
Ryne Sprout, C, East Ridge, 2028
A true switch-hitter, Sprout put together an impressive round of batting practice, maintaining a balanced and simple operation from both sides of the plate with an all-fields, line-drive approach, achieving a peak exit velocity of 90 mph with an average exit velocity of 85 mph.
Teag Stephenson, INF, Tomah, 2028
Presenting an athletic 5-foot-9, 157-pound frame with room for added strength, Stephenson presented a smooth and well-sequenced operation at the plate with adjustability to pair, with an all-fields approach and feel to lift the ball in the air to the poolside, achieving a peak exit velocity of 88.3 mph. Athletic footwork on the infield with feel for the pocket, feet work toward the target with an athletic arm up to 79 mph across the infield that plays from multiple angles.
PITCHERS
Skout Ehlers, RHP, Tomah, 2028
Strong 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame. Ehlers provided a strong look on the mound out of a simple, methodical operation to gather, then explode down the mound. The fastball worked in the mid-to-upper-70s with carry, averaging 19.2 inches of induced vertical break, with a quality breaking ball (2,068+ RPM) and changeup to pair with feel for all three pitches.
