Today, we are taking a look at a handful of our staff's favorite players from the weekend, found below.
Underclass
Taylor Fryjoff, RHP/OF, Franklin, 2029
Wiry 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame. Gave a strong look in a start on Sunday afternoon from an athleticism throughout from a compact, ¾ slot that repeated and competed in zone. Fastball sat 77-79 mph T80 with life through the zone. He also spun a slider at 68-70 mph for whiffs and turned over a changeup at 70-72 mph with fade. Punched out 9 in 4 shutout innings of work while only giving up one hit and walking one. Jumps are inevitable as he continues to fill out his frame.
- Mason Tokarz-Deram, Associate Scout
Kael Boenitz, C/SS, Menomonee Falls, 2029
Strong, athletic 5-foot-9, 165-pound frame with plenty of room to add. Currently ranked No. 19 in Wisconsin’s 2029 class; Boenitz crowded the plate with an athletic stance, utilized a simple load and fluid level swing with feel for the barrel, showing an all-field approach. The right-handed hitter showed well in a two-hit performance on Saturday in the cleanup spot, plating two runs on a double and a single. Defensively, has a strong, fluid arm, and showcased a strong ability to block.
- Jacob Gonzalez, Associate Scout
Cole Pawlowski, OF/RHP, Libertyville, 2029
Strong 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Pawlowski, a left-handed hitter, put on a strong hitting performance on Saturday night. Utilizing a gap-to-gap approach, Powlowski swung with intent, driving two triples deep to the left-center gap, also recording a sac fly, driving in three on the day.
- Jacob Gonzalez, Associate Scout
Samuel Sollazo, SS, New Berlin, 2030
6-foot-1, 155-pound lean frame. Agile and athletic actions developing into a growing frame. Sollazo features a balanced and clean swing path, slightly uphill. He stays compact, short to long through the baseball when on barrel. Defensively he stands out with a big arm from the infield, showing developed footwork and clean glovework with smooth actions all around paired with budding athleticism.
- Stephaune Haylock, Associate Scout
Brody Ludwig, C, Crivitz, 2030
5-foot-8, 120-pound frame, lean with room for growth. Playing up in the 15U division, Brody had healthy at-bats showcasing quick hands with a tight, rotational swing from the left side flashing some power with a deep fly double to dead center. He impressed behind the plate as an agile blocker with strong wrists around the zone.
- Stephaune Haylock, Associate Scout
Blake Head, OF, Homewood-Flossmoor, 2029
5-foot-8, 135-pound twitchy athletic frame. Quick twitch is present on both sides of the ball, at the plate he showed quick hands from the left side that stay direct to the ball, working with a slight uphill swing to generate backspin and carry. Line drive approach, ability to extend base hits. Showcased a confident, widened and shortened two-strike approach maintaining bat speed and path.
- Stephaune Haylock, Associate Scout
Jackson Larson, INF/RHP, Bay Port, 2030
6-foot, 180-pound frame. It’s a smooth swing from the left side with present bat speed and plenty of strength for the class. Generated plenty of loud contact in a look on Sunday where he tallied a double and a triple, one of which being a walkoff to dead center field. 7.26 runner in the 60 with the tools only going to tick up as he gets older and adds strength to an already intriguing profile. Another high-level prospect coming out of Bay Port that will warrant a close follow in the coming years.
- Mason Tokarz-Deram, Associate Scout
Upperclass
Ben Kusumpa, INF/RHP, Rolling Meadows, 2027
Uncommitted, 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame with plenty of athleticism throughout. In the box it’s a pre-coiled set up with a toe-tap trigger that compliments a polished RH swing. Looked the part in the night cap where he went for 3-for-4 with a loud double to left-center field and 5 RBI’s. Hopped on the bump the next day and worked from a slight crossfire delivery that worked downhill from a compact ¾ slot. Fastball played at 83-86 mph and spun a slider at 70-72 mph. Finished punching out seven while walking none in 3 innings of work. Expect the impact on both sides of the ball to tick up as he continues to fill out the frame.
- Mason Tokarz-Deram, Associate Scout
Michael Petfalski, MIF, Waukesha South, 2027
Madison College commit, 5-foot-7, 147-pound frame; currently ranked No. 54 in the state. Tooled up, twitchy middle infielder that seemingly gets better with each look this summer. Balanced operation with a small leg kick that compliments a smooth RH swing with length through the zone. A rangy defender on the dirt with fluid actions and plenty of arm strength to stick on the left side of the infield. On the barrel in 3 of 4 trips during the championship game on Sunday and capped it off with a walk off 2B to deep right-center field. Look for him to continue to put the tools together and add strength for Waukesha South next spring.
- Mason Tokarz-Deram, Staff pick
Givon Storkson, UTIL, Stoughton, 2028
Uncommitted, 5-foot-9, 170-pound frame with budding strength. It’s a balanced setup with a big leg-kick trigger with a flat path through the zone that separates and creates tension in his backside well to create plenty of impact at contact. Impressed in a look on Sunday during bracket play against some tough competition where he went 3-for-3 with a 2B and a pair of singles. Really looked the part in the box and should gain the attention of college coaches following a strong summer circuit.
- Mason Tokarz-Deram, Staff pick
Evan Northup, RHP, Union Grove, 2027
Uncommitted, athletic 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame with room for added strength. Currently ranked No. 183 in Wisconsin’s 2027 class. Utilizing a clean delivery, fluid arm in a high ¾ slot, Northup showcased strong feel for his five-pitch arsenal, striking out eleven in a seven-inning shutout. Northup leaned on his two fastballs early in counts, the four-seam, 83-84 mph, with arm-side-run, and the cutter, 80-83 mph. Showed two breakers, the slider, 74-75 mph with sharp 11/3 action, tunnels off the cutter, generating swings-and-misses, and the curveball, 72-75 mph, sharp 11/5 action also generated swings-and-misses. The changeup was used sparingly, 77 mph, tunnels off fastball, causing weak contact.
- Jacob Gonzalez, Associate Scout
Carter Hoeffler, RHP/INF, Muskego, 2028
Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 19 in Wisconsin. Athletic 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame with room for added strength, Hoeffler has continued to produce into the fall circuit, coming off of a summer circuit in which he represented Team Wisconsin at the Future Games. An athletic mover on the mound, Hoeffler provided an upside look utilizing a three-pitch mix with feel for strikes and spin throughout. The fastball worked in the low-to-mid-80s with a mid-70s slider and an upper-70s changeup to pair in a start where he struck out six batters in five innings of work. Collecting multiple hits as well on the weekend, Hoeffler showcased a simple right-handed operation at the plate with a direct, strong barrel.
- Will Calcaterra, Area Scout & Operations
Calvin Johnson, INF, Hudson, 2028
Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 67 in Wisconsin. Presenting a physical 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame, Johnson produced throughout gameplay, showcasing a strong, quick barrel and present feel to lift. An athletic mover on the infield, Johnson presents arm strength and athleticism that projects to keep him on the left side of the infield.
