A standout year at the state and national level made MIF Jack Counsell (Whitefish Bay, 2023) the No. 2 most-viewed profile of 2023.

Counsell’s year started at the Prep Baseball Super 60 - which annually features some of the top MLB Draft prospects from across the country. There, he showed various tools with a number of professional scouts in attendance. The former Blue Duke hammered the ball as he posted an exit velocity of 97 mph from a simple and rhythmic right-handed swing. As an athlete, Counsell posted a top-10 60-yard dash for the event when he recorded a time of 6.76 seconds. The smooth middle-infielder displayed fluidity with the bat and his glove up the middle at one of the most notable Prep Baseball events of the year. Long been one of the state’s top prospects, Counsell proved himself on the national level, yet again, and entered his senior spring with a full head of steam.

His performance at the Super 60 was just the start for Counsell in 2023, as his name would be one of many that would headline the WIAA season as a whole. He did it all for a talented Blue Dukes squad, as he recorded a batting average of .393, 31 stolen bases, and 19 RBIs. While Counsell’s work throughout the spring was solid, he showed out when the Blue Dukes needed him most, during the playoffs. En route to Whitefish Bay’s State Title run, Counsell was the main fixture at the top of the Blue Dukes’ lineup, all while being a lockdown defender up-the-middle, too. Shortly following the conclusion of his senior season, Counsell was named to the PBR Wisconsin WIAA All-State Third Team, with our staff writing the following:

“Counsell arguably had the biggest impact on Whitefish Bay’s run to a Division 1 Championship, as his offensive production and defensive work at the shortstop position was more than influential for the Blue Dukes when it was all said and done. The righty racked up eight hits in three games in Appleton, highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance in a 17-0 win over Stevens Point in the Semifinals. He finished the year by scoring 40 times as the every-day leadoff hitter for Whitefish Bay, as he accumulated 19 RBIs in the process too. Despite only having 11 extra-base hits, the middle infielder made up for that with his speed on the basepaths, as he swiped a total of 31 bases, one of the higher totals amongst the pool of All-State members. Counsell stepped up in the big moment for his team, earning him Third-Team All-State honors to complete his prep career.”

Counsell’s prep career has certainly been a decorated one, highlighted by being named First Team All-Conference three times, Second Team All-State as a junior, and being ranked at the state and national level throughout his years. The former Future Gamer has since transitioned to Michigan, where he will join a handful of other Badger State products and will look to continue his success at the next level - something he is certainly capable of doing.

Scouting Report

9/30/21

Counsell’s excellent bat-to-ball skills were on display all weekend long at our PBR at The Rock Championships. He’s always been able to spray line-drives to all fields effectively, and this past weekend he showed the ability to drive the ball with more authority, capitalizing on a couple of mistakes in the zone for extra-base hits. Counsell’s a well-rounded prospect, with sound middle-infield actions and a simple, on-the-barrel, right-handed swing.
