Appalachian Aces fall to Diamond Skills 7-4
September 15, 2018
On day two of the WVU Team Camp, The Appalachian Aces fell to the talented Diamond Skills out of the DMV. After leading 4 - 2 through six and a half innings, Diamond Skills scored five unanswered runs that proved to be the difference.
Diamond Skills raced out to a 2-0 lead after 3 innings before the Aces were able to find some offense in the top of the 4th. Isaac Miller and Peyton Brown led off the frame with back-to-back free passes. After a flyout, Miller advanced to third base on a wild pitch, and with some heads up base running, eventually scored on a sacrifice fly to first base.
After a couple of scoreless frames by both teams, the Aces stuck for three runs. With two outs and two strikes, Jon Milton singled to left field. Caleb Taylor then tattooed the first pitch he saw to the gap in right center field for a stand up triple scoring Milton. Carter Lyles was then hit by a pitch, before Devon Neal hit a missile down the right field line just inside the first base bag scoring both Taylor and Lyles.
Trevor Thomas, Taylor, and Neal each had two hits a piece on the day. Colton Matthews also singled.
The Appalachian Aces (2-2) will be back in action again tomorrow vs. Flood City 2020's. First pitch is set for 12:30 pm at East Fairmont High School in Fairmont, WV.
